Engine swap, any experience?

Isn't that kinda going backwards??? May have ECM problems and smog issues to start with..... may depend on what state your in. Unfortunately I am in the NANNY state of California and this swap would never pass.

the 22re in it now needs to be completely rebuilt, found a good 22r for a good price.. might end up rebuilding the 22re, just need to get it on the road asap

You don't need to swap over to the carb just because you need a rebuild on your current 22RE. Just drop the block and head in and re-attach your intake, hoses etc.. and you are done. It's really easy to just seperate the complete intake from the head and lay it over on the side, same with exhaust.
This is of course assuming that you are getting a 22R block that was made in 1985 or later.

thanks for the input, going to check out the 22r today, the guy says its from an '87, but i thought they had 22re's only then... we'll see. that would be sweet to be able to keep the EFI hooked up the same as the 22re!

Yeah, you could get a carb'ed 22r in 87. Like Turbo said, as long as its an 85 or later model you should have no problems! Good luck

checked out the 22r today, sounds strong, compression's good, should be a good match for my 87 Runner, the guy's pullin out of his truck sa****ay, hoping to get started mid next week on the swap! can't wait to drive it again!
