Engine swap??

I have a 1995 toyota 4runner 4wd 3.0 v6 and i would like to look into an engine swap because the original has no power. I would like to put in something like the jeep cherokee sport engine. The jeep has a 4.0 inline v6 would it be possible to drop that engine in with parts/tranny if needed with 4wd still. Any thoughts or recommendations.

I think there'd be a considerable amount of custom work to be done to make that happen. There are quite a few former 3.0L owners who moved on to the 3.4L engine from the 3rd gen 4runners that was also used in some Toyota trucks. More power, should be more reliable, and pretty easy to get (they pop up on Craigslist periodically, or you could find a wrecked 4runner and yank the motor then part the rest out).

You could also find a JDM 3.4L and just order all the necessary parts ahead of time to make it go smoother since it seems like everyone who's done this has found it to be more involved than simply swapping. In any event, if I were you I'd follow one of the many 3.4L swap threads floating around on the internet and go that route.

The Jeep 4.0L inline 6 appears to have 190hp/235tq for later years, with the 5VZFE 3.4L Toyota making 190hp/220tq. That minimal extra torque found on the jeep engine wouldn't be enough to convince me to do additional work and end up with a bastard child vehicle.

The 4.0, while a great engine is too long for that engine bay. As mentioned above, look into the 3.4 swap, or chevy 4.3 swap.

Google is your friend.
