Engine Swap

I have an 85 4runner with the 22re EFI motor. My father in law just totaled out his 98 4runner with the v-6 and a 5 speed in it. I want to know if I can put that engine in my yota???? And don't say anything can be done...i want to know if its a bolt up type deal or are we talking major modifications here? Also is there a kit or something that woulod make this swap easy and quick.

its not a bolt up deal. anything CAN be done, but from the sounds of it thats more work than you would want. the 3VZE mounts dont line up with the 22RE. the R150 or R151 trans mounts dont line up with the W56 trans mounts. the slave cylinders are on opposite sides, and not sure, but i heard rumours that the drive shafts are different lengths. the ecu's are different, but since they shared the same body, im sure if you obtained a wiring diagram, you could mate the wiring harnesses. it is possible with welding skills
(for adapter plates) and some electronic skills, you could make this work, but think of all the HG problems the 3VZE had. try chevy small block 350 or 327 or 400, or 305, or 383 stroker if you wanted. you would need a THM350 or 400 trans, and even more fabrication, but minus the majority of wiring skills as there is no ecu with carbs. or keep it yota and got for a 5MGTE or 7MGTE or make your 4runner run less than ten seconds and drop in a 2JZ-GTTE

I think he wants to swap his 22RE with the 5VZE V6 not the 3VZE. The 5VZE is a great motor in comparison to the 3VZE.

haha true true!! i didn't even pay attention to the year, i just saw V6 and started writing!! but the 5 and the 3 are cosmetically and physically the same (same motor mounts etc..)


Red, if you are travelling near Bragg Creek, watch out. i put my 4runner in the ditch on two wheels this morning. the road was totally dry, but the trees shaded the road and it went from dry gravel around the corner to 2 inch thick ice in about 2 feet, so please dont make the same mistake as i did, WATCH OUT!!
