engine swap

has any body done an engine swap in their 4runner? what is a good engine swap for a 3.0 v6? How much trouble to drop in a 3.4 v6 engine into a 90 4runner 4X4 5 spd? Please advice.

Lots of people have done this swap - from what I recall, it's the easiest of the swaps to do. I wouldn't really describe any swap as "easy" though. Takes a lot of work to get everything right, and the costs will add up.

Because your 4runner already has a V6 in it, the engine itself is more or less a "plug&play" install. You will have to do some wiring work, and exhaust work. But the motor mounts will line right up and your stock transmission will bolt right to the 3.4 V6. There are a lot of threads about dropping in the 3.4 on yotatech. If my runner originally had the 3.0 in it... I would have went with the 3.4 instead of rebuilding my 22re.
