Engine upgrade

Have a 98 4 runner 2x4 with 4 cylinder. Wanted to get new truck to pull boat, wife wont budge.
Looking at trying to upgrade engine/tranny to equivalent of f-250. or at least be able to tow 9000. the 5000 stock cant pull my 4500 trailer boat up the mountain any more. What am i looking at $$$$ wise to change and any recomendations email me at [email protected].

9000lb is a little beyond modifying a4runner

You could probably get one to pull 9000 pounds with about a $5k investment, but holy s**t I wouldn't want to be the one pushing the brakes trying to stop it...

It just isn't feasible to try to safely pull 9k lbs with this lightweight of a vehicle...

Even if you got the pulling and braking power up to par, there's still the short wheelbase that would make the load wander around and tail whip...

ok im stupid

I wrote this late at night. What i really meant was what is the most i could expect to tow with the 4runner if i did engine tranny swap. and what do you recommend.

I am just so pissed i cant get my new titan. and going to have to settle for very used 250. or something to get boat and toys to the river.
