Entune not recognizing USB connected iOS Devices

Am I the only one having issues with Entune and newer iOS devices connecting via USB? My iPhone X can connect via Bluetooth but when I try connecting it via USB I just see "iPod" greyed out. I'm on the latest versions of Entune and iOS.

I have the same problem with an iPhone 7. It will not connect after turning off Bluetooth on the head unit and the phone. Mine is a 2014 with up to date entune.

Hi Xtremluck,

That's gotta be one of the most frustrating audio failures that can happen! When it happened to me, it was because I neglected to reconnect the Hard-Drive cable to the navigation unit; they're separate which left the source button (USB) grayed -out! But you never said that you've ever removed the head-unit so I'll assume that, this has nothing to do with your trouble!

What I would do would be to pull the 20A fuse (if the truck is at least a 2014 or later/ earlier models use a 30A fuse labled AMP) from the main fusebox under the hood labeled: RAD 20A, and leave the fuse out for a Minimum of four (4) hrs. This will reset the HU, removing all of the temporary files and history logs stored up in the Hard-Drive!

I would also be sure to restart your Ipod so the files in this device can be re-placed in their proper order! Once that's all done, it should be back to normal, okay(?)! Please be sure to let us know how you made out with that; you're not the first to experience that problem! 'Best to you',

The 20A radio fuse did the trick. Only had it out for about an hour.

Hi DKRunner,

This firmware reset usually takes about four hours... So glad to hear that this MASTER RESET procedure still worked as planned!

rig, Cheers!

It worked great! I was time pressured by a trip to the grocery store and was surprised it worked. It even loads album art over Bluetooth better now.

I wasn't quite so lucky with mine. My battery has actually been disconnected for over 5 days (Working on my dual battery project). Hooked the batteries back up last night and I still have the same problem. My iPhone X when connected to USB shows up as a greyed out iPod. Bluetooth works fine though.

Am I the only person who notices the audio quality difference when playing music via Bluetooth vs. USB?

My entune unit will not display text messages when received.

Bluetooth settings allow notifications for the phone.

Iphone 8 connects to the entune unit through bluetooth. Can call, just no text message alerts.

Tried pulling the 20A fuse marked RAD, left out for 4 hours. No reset of the head unit. No 30A fuse for AMP in the truck.

Truck is a 2016 Pro.

Ideas?

what worked for me, and please don't ask why, was to change the home screen to audio and nav only. then disconnect and repair the phone, that is what worked for me. if I go back to a 3 part home screen it wont work

Enable sms messages in the head unit menu.

Why are people connecting their phones via USB? This seems like the slowest way possible to charge the phone. Especially if streaming functionality is enabled thru Bluetooth. Aftermarket Quickcharge 2.0 or 3.0 charging would be significantly faster than factory USB.

The audio quality via USB is vastly superior vs Bluetooth. So if you have decent speakers the difference is pretty huge.

Thanks for the replies guys.

SMS is enabled on the head unit.

Two screen option did not work either.

I can make and receive phone calls.

Pandora plays through Bluetooth and the entune app.

No messaging available either through Bluetooth or when the phone is connected through the USB AUX.

iPhone 8. Entune is up to date according to the unit.

This is so disappointing.

I had to change some setting in the Settigs>Messages on the iPhone to make it work. I have set to "on": iMessage, Send Read Receipts, Send as SMS, MMS Messaging, and Group Messaging.

You might try deleting all of the old text messages on your phone. This worked for me a couple of times, but it always returns so I just gave up.

Same issue here. Nothing changed with my headunit, so it must be due to some sort of Apple update.

Hi wcjeep,

When I connect my ipod via BT, I lose the touch screen feature... which means that I have to pull over to change a playlist from one to another! For those of you who didn't get positive results from a navi 'MASTER RESET', you may have a bad software version... there were a few; I too had trouble with mine before I upgraded it to 5.1 a couple of yrs back. The software is free at the dealership or on-line! 'Best to you',

Been having the same problem for a while now. Mine connects, and even starts playing music then inexplicably stops and doesn't recognize my phone anymore. Disconnecting and reconnecting the usb cable didn't work either. I have to reset the head unit. Me and my head unit have this fight every morning on my drive to work. Usually after 3-4 resets it stays connected.
