Entune USB trouble

So beyond a jump drive scenario, why does hooking up a usb cable from a phone to the USB port not work for me? I hook up my Samsung S5 this way and the USB icon stays dithered out and unable to select....

So beyond a jump drive scenario, why does hooking up a usb cable from a phone to the USB port not work for me? I hook up my Samsung S5 this way and the USB icon stays dithered out and unable to select....

I am not sure exactly what the problem could be but the S5 when it sees a USB connection needs input on how to use that connection, charge or to transfer files. I have never used my S5 usb to play music that is on the phone, only Bluetooth. I will go out and try later today and see if I can get the usb to work and let you know.

Thanks, i've done swipe down from the top of the screen to get to the input menu where you select the way the deice is used for MIDI input, charging, etc and now matter which one I choose it still doesnt see the phone.

I tried to play through the usb and couldn't get it to work. It probably has to do with the phone and the way the usb is read by the head unit it can't find any thing to play. I use bluetooth and charge through the usb. I am not sure if this would work with any phone.
Any one have success with this?

I also have almost 16000 songs. I tested several scenarios trying to determine what was the bug/limiting factor in all of this. I have a 128GB USB 3.0 drive, ultimately formatted with FAT32 via the Rufus utility(app). I tried:
* Formatting with ExFAT 128k chunks - Failed to read drive
* Formatting with ExFAT 32k Chunks - Failed to read drive
* Placing all songs in one directory "Music" - Failed to read all songs
* Placing all songs in directories by Artist on the root of the drive - Failed to read all songs.
* Placing all songs by artist, under a sub-directory "Music" - Failed to read all songs
* Placing all songs in directories by Artist, then split into Directories "0-I", "J-M", "N-S", "T-Z". Each directory has no more than 700 folders in it. - All songs readable.

I am not sure what the problem is with your Entune system but I am using a 64 gig USB flash drive with the music in folders by artist with no problem. If you get a chance have your dealer or yourself to update the firmware on the Entune head unit this might help. Here is a link to the download site at Toyota for Entune.

Somehow I missed this post, or was to lazy to implement this sooner, but I just installed the update today using the USB port. Hoping it fixes the random freeze/reboot issue. Thanks for posting!

2019 Limited...Can I pop out the usb audio port in the lower dash or do I have to dismantle the center console? I’m wanting to run a cable to the center console so I don’t have to look at a cable. I tried prying it out but I fear screwing up the dash.

You have to release it from the back. It's pretty simple though. No tools required. Follow this video until the 1:35 so that you can reach it form the back and pinch it. Its the same for a Limited.
