That thing looks brand new, fantastic job. If I tried to do a deep clean like that, I'd be afraid I wouldn't be able to put it back together correctly.

What all did you use on the headlights? I have one that's pretty bad looking.

As far as the headlights, I began with a grey 3m scuff pad to take the flaking uv coat off, then I went to 1000,1200,1500, and finally 2000 grit wetsand paper. The next step involves mixing equal parts of mineral spirits and uv poly and applying it to the lens. It can be wiper on with a brush, rag or put in a spray gun and sprayed on them. It was a bit involved but I'm happy with the results

Right now its the stock xreas with 2.5/1.5 DS spacers. I have a full FJ off-road suspension, brand new that I am going to mount up in the next few weeks when I have the time.
Of course she had a bit of rust but nothing serious. Just surface rust that I cleaned up and then rust proofed. The entire undercarriage has been sprayed with bedliner to help protect and preserve it.

Went out wheeling with some buddies a few weeks ago. Managed to get some really bad brush rash. Good thing two of the guys I was with are professional detailers! Should clean up nicely. I also found the time to get a full 90k service done and switched out all my fluids to synthetic.

goodbye old crusty XREAS and hello to brand new 2014 FJ crusier off-road suspension. Springs, shocks and struts with 1.5/2.5 Daystar kit(was on the XREAS). I gained about an inch at all 4 corners going to the FJ setup. Next up is new CV boots!

So I haven't had much time or money for mods lately. I've been chasing a p0420 code for a while. New sensors and the non-fouler mod fixed me up, so far(fingers crossed).


After the cat code was cleared, luck would have another code pop up. CEL, VSC, Trac etc all popped on one day. Scan showed a p0986 which is a solenoid code. I did some research and testing and found the cause to be low trans fluid! Apparently these trucks are very sensitive to fluid level and must be filled using the A/T temp check method and not a simple dump and fill to the fill plug when cold.

also had torn my cv boots. Most likely from the dryrot and the recent added inch+ from the FJ suspension. So I decided on some silicone boots in hopes they would last longer and not dry out. Bummer during install I could not get them over the CVs for the life of me! I tried for hours using different methods. I took that as a wash and ordered up some OEM cv kits from Toyota. Got those installed and all that nasty grease off my suspension/undercarriage. While I was under there I finished hitting the frame and components with the bedliner.

I found some time to grease up all the zerk fittings on the driveshafts and also cleaned up and painted my rusty oem skid plates.


Replaced my rashed up side view mirrors with some new black ones too. Cold weather came and the battery took a dump on me. Seems to have been nothing but bad luck thus far but I still love this rig and at this point, basically everything has been gone over and/or replaced. So Im hoping to be good for many years to come with general maintenance.

Your axle angles seem pretty good. Check my thread in a bit...updating some stuff tonight. Even with the diff drop, it didnt help much.

I don't think mine is working properly. I wait until I fill up and figure it that way. I think the best I got so far was 15.10 mpg with 1/2 hwy driving. Spark plugs are next on my list...hope it helps mine goes up a bit.

Yea its a nice rig. Once you fix the general maintenance, you should be good another 150k.

They are decent. I was considering a diff drop myself but I dont have any binding and my boots dont fold over on themselves so I should be ok. I actually just saw your thread. Truck is looking great, man.

Of course I did! He had to wake up early that following Monday morning to drop her off before work and get it repaired under warranty!

Excellent! I have a gopro as well so we can capture some good footage when we get out. I am hopefully getting detailed this week to clean up all the old brush rash from the last outing. My buddy was out this weekend(never called me!) and found a cool spot that is pretty open so no risk of rashing up your paint. He said its out near Wharton Forrest where we wheeled last time and they have some cool hills and mudpits. Sounds like fun to me!

I have a strap and some chains and most of the guys I roll with have winches if we really get stuck

so i ran into a bit more troubles these past few weeks but Im confident everything is 100% now. I had another o2 sensor code pop up so I was thinking "oh man, the cats must be going out on me" I popped the down tube off, of course the studs were broken and I had to drill those out, and inspected the cats from the bottom... no broken bits or dust so i was safe. Pulled the original downstream o2 off the d/s and it pulled the threads with it. Had to tap the bunghole(lol) and install the plug non-fouler on this side and then the new o2. code went away for about 2 weeks and then up popped a d/s o2 heater code!:gun4: new upstream o2 and all is well. so now both downstreams and the d/s upstream have been replaced.








Drove her for another couple days and a trans code and abs code pop up. abs code was due to a broken wire which was a simple diagnostic multimeter test for continuity and a 5 min replacement.


As far as the trans code... I had remembered reading somewhere about the trans wire corroding on alot of 4runners, tacomas, tundras and land cruisers (A750E/F transmissions). So I crawled under the truck one night and did a quick inspection and found my harness pins to be badly corroded and also a few pins snapped off:yield:








Ordered up a new harness and found some time to pull the front driveshaft, shift cable and drop the trans pan and swap out the harness(in 19 degree weather in my driveway). Not an entirely difficult job but miserable due to the cold. Filled the harness with dielectric grease, along with any other easily accessible plugs while I was under there.

Also finally got over to my buddy to have her cleaned up. Full cut, claybar and polish and she looks great again! Paint feels so smooth and looks very wet and deep.

















I have to say that at this point, not much else can go wrong*knock on wood* All wrapped up and just in time for this north eastern blizzard! Time to enjoy this thing and get out and play!

Hey Bill! Im still around for another couple months. 4 Runner is great. July 2nd is actually open right now. Lets try and get some guys together. Maybe we should start a thread?

Damn this thread makes me realize I really have to clean mine, its been 2+ years.

Let me know when you guys go wheeling, I'd like to jump on if I can.
