Eugene13's 1984 4runner Build Thread

People do the “zuk” mod which seems to consist of putting a coil spring between the frame and leaf spring. This seems to be the accepted way to deal with sagging rears, instead of putting appropriate leaves in... A 1” block might work, but I believe people seem to blame broken leaves on lift blocks.

Thanks for the info, didn't know about people breaking leaves from blocks.

From what I've seen, stock 3rd gen 4Runner rear springs work great for the ZUK mod

These work good for a stock height first gen? Might need something a little longer cause I have 3" lift springs but I'll check some measure mens at my local junkyard.

Nice looking build!
Thanks!

Painted!

Finished painting the carrier and brackets. Looks super nice in satin black. Got some slick hardware for the brackets too. Also added this license plate mount with a little LED light that I splice in the rear taillight running lights. Cleans up nicely!

Thanks for posting! The inspiration is great! Just doing routing stuff on mine for now, but this helps me dream and think long term!

Hey guys! Been busy with school and work. Haven't done anything major to the 4Runner since the tire carrier, just haven't had time and am mostly saving up money for a 4th gen. :typing: But here's something I've wanted to do for a long time. TUBE DOORS! They are 4xInnovations doors and are rad so far!. Only complaint I had was that their latch mechanism that they sent did not quite fit on the latch plate, so I had to cut a little bit of the corner off. No worries though. Hopefully ill have them painted black by this weekend, along with making another soft top (old one didnt last very long)

Save a bit less and get a 3rd Gen:). I know the 4ths get a V8, but damn they’re ugly!

I built a sun shade top for mine, but since it does actually rain here in the PNW I splashed out for a Softopper yesterday. The top is costing almost as much as I have into my truck!

Oh believe me I looked at 3rd gens, but I can't, for the life of me, find one in my area with low miles! almost every single one on craigslist I've seen has over 200k and the owner is still asking in the 6-7k range. For the few that I have seen with low(ish) miles, the owner wants the same price as a similarly spec'd 4th gen. So I figured I'd aim for the the newer car, and I happen to quite like how they look stock, especially the 06-07s.

New 4Runner

Good afternoon everyone, sad to say I will not be posting nearly as frequently on this forum with the '84. Love it to death, but i have joined the 4th gen gang. Took it to one last offload trip with some buddies, bitter sweet moment. Here are some pics from that.

As it sits right now, the '84 is sitting at home, non-operational. I don't plan to do anything to it anytime soon, but the long term goal for it is a 3rz swap and get it CARB legal here in California.

As for the 4th gen, its a 2007 Sport Edition V6 2WD, and I love it. 137k, grey metallic paint, basically stock (for now) I plan to do a build thread on it over in the 4th gen forums. This will be a sort of desert, high speed, pre-runner type vehicle. Plans for it are coilovers with reservoirs, spindles, wheels/tires. I want it to be very simple and clean. Heres some pics of the new truck. Very clean inside and out. Plan to keep this one for a long time as I go through college and then on to life.

It was fun on this forum with all the classics, I'll still be active on the 4th gen forums and possibly on here in the future.
