Evap. System Vent Control P446

The check engine light and the 2 other lights came on (VSC and something) so I had the shop run the diagnostic. It was P446 for the evaporation system vent control. Is it smart to get this fixed just so the engine light doesn't come on again in a month or so? What does this thing do, anyway?

I didn't realize that it's technically P0446 instead of P446, so my search of this forum wasn't turning up anything. I searched this forum with P0446 and found enough information I think.

The shop is going to replace a valve, and if they do it for under $200 I'll be fine. If the light comes back on after that I'm ****ed.

Well, the light came on again over the weekend, and this is about 3 days after having the valve replaced for a cool $200. The code was reset. I have to go to the shop tomorrow to see what it's reading now, but I have a strong suspicion it's up the same alley, and that it'll cost more money without really fixing anything.

This whole emissions control system **** bugs me. It's all expensive stuff, it seems to be placed in a spot where it can corrode and get ****ed up easily, and it's complicated and sensitive.

Help!

Better hope it's not the charcoal canister.

Mine went out and your jaw will drop when you hear what it costs. ;-)

I've heard the bad news from others here. Ahhhh!

Anything that will keep the light off is fine with me. I hate repeating bugs.
