I bought my 4runner off auction wrecked. Soon after I got it going, the charcoal canister vent valve started leaking and threw a check engine code. I diagnosed it and ordered an OEM charcoal canister. Now about 7 months later, it's doing exactly the same thing. I'm thinking I heard that a bad gas tank vent can cause gas to get into the evap system and kill it. But, I thought the charcoal canister was the gas tank vent, so I'm a little confused. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
My 05 SR5 seems to be killing charcoal canisters.

Based on my repairs of Honda Pilot vent system I think there are a solenoid valve or two in the system before the cannister.
And never fill your gas tank or let it sit around after filling.
What is condition of gas cap?
See if you can get an expensive professional grade ( like top caliber electro mechanics have) code reader to ck the OBD2. These readers can display deep assessments.

I have a $800 Autel, which is how I diagnosed it initially. The gas cap is brand new.
My main question is if there is a vent somewhere else that is blocked.

If the system is working properly the only vent will be thru the evap control system that only vents to atmosphere thru the charcoal cannister.
Its possible your tank/fill hose has an issue allowing liquid fuel into the evap system which is supposed to handle fumes only.
Or a fault is causing suction on fuel vapors all the time instead of when motor off. My Pilot diverted fumes into engine intake when motor on-thats what those solenoid valves controlled. I remember tracing a hose to the intake system under the hood.
I think the solenoids were behind a cover plate and there was a simple foam air filter in there too.
I remember the engine vacuum suctioned fuel vapors out of the charcoal cannister and also from tank . The air pulled throught the cannister was filtered by this foam air cleaner. Regular purging the charcoal cannister prevented it from filling with fuel.
Hope my memory is accurate and that my 2004 Pilot's system is similar to your runner.

What code is it throwing?
This is the only other part that I cold find that may be causing the issue that I can find on Toyota's parts website, these dealership websites aren't the best at finding all the diagrams/parts in a system, they're really a pain to navigate.
