ever use interior from a different vehicle in your 3rd gen?

i have a 2001 Limited 3rd gen and as many of us have happen, the leather is worn pretty good.

has anyone ever replaced the seats with a newer gen or maybe even seats from another type of vehicle? (i want to stick with leather)

i think i saw someone use honda accord seats up front before, but can't find it again. i also wasn't sure if 4th gen seats would fit.

if you have any input or suggestions, especially if you have pics, let us know.

I don't know of any direct bolt in, certainly not from a (gulp) Honda. I've done several seat swaps, some required a lot of fabrication, some were fairly easy. If you do a swap with 4th gen seats, take lots of pictures and post a cool write up!

Interested in seeing where you go with this too. I don't have the ability or knowledge to weld, so making seat brackets work isn't an option. Also can't find any seats from 4runners on Craigslist or at wreckers, just cracked to hell leather with duct tape, or cloth like mine, split, and probably worn out. Hell, the side butt bolster on my drivers seat could be pushed in by the wind... no resistance to it.

I'd assume the closest match that was non-4runner would be from another Toyota or Lexus, like Camry seats, but if I accidentally got a seat that was any taller than my 4runner seats, I'd look like an ogre driving with my head smashed against the ceiling. Also the concern of width, and rubbing against the center console. Sigh.

Just watched a video on leather restoration and recolouring on YouTube.
It doesn't look terrible expensive BUT it's a VERY time consuming process.

Someone, and i don't remember who, reported putting land rover seats in their 3rd gen and if memory serves, there was minimal fabrication involved.

I've got the front and rear seats from an infiniti QX4 in my 3rd gen, there's some pics at the start of my build thread, it wasn't too big of a task as long as you have a welder.

That's why I'm looking for SR5s because every limited I see, the interior is beat to crap while the SR5s have held up much better. Maybe just swap in some SR5 seats and call it a day.

Yeah my cloth sr5 seats are in pretty d3cent shape for the age, only some wear on the drivers seat.

I would recommend buying limited seats and restoring them.
The video I mentioned before they used por15 products which from what I've heard is a good brand of products to use.

I've been looking into this for a while. I have an SR5, which my cloth is still in good shape; however, I'm looking for a more comfortable seat.

I know you don't want to spend more than $500, but if you're wanting to keep leather seats...that's going to be difficult. If you like your seats and plan on keeping your 4R, step up and buy a set of Katskins and recover your seats. I'm assuming you just want to do the fronts...so it will sit you back about $800-$1000. And Wow!!!! They look and feel awesome...plus you can customize them!

Or you could go with aftermarket like Corbeau, Recaro, or Mastercraft seat. But once again your going to be over $500.

Without being able to fabricate, this will be difficult! Hopefully another member will have a solution for you!?! Good luck on your search. As others have stated, please keep us updated...with lots of pics!!

I put the seats from a scion xb in mine, very comfortable and supportive. I had to weld the brackets from the 4runner to the rails of the scion seats. so for about 4 months I rode them around, they sat 4 inches too tall, so i finally looked at the construction of them, turned out there was a way to cut away some of it and remount the rails, anyways I remounted them and have been happy ever since.

I put Mazda seats in the 96, but yeah, had to fab brackets for them.
