Exhaust 05 V8

Ok Ive posted on this subject several times and searched a lot too, but just end of getting somewhat confused. Are there any complete catback exhaust systems that fit an 05 V8 4runner right now?

Magnaflow
TRD
Borla
Etc.

Thanks to whoever knows this answer.

If I'm not mistaken, you can only have a custom duel exhaust made at a muffler shop. I would think that an 03/04 aftermarket single exhaust (that exits on the passenger side) could be used on an 05.

im with you man...im trying to find a setup that will work without having to take out the spare or anything. Im going to talk to one of my guys at magnaflow and find out what the deal is with their exhaust fitment for the 05.
 
Yeah let me know what Magnaflow says, I was actually thinking of doing the same thing. Another option would be to have a muffler shop modify the TRD or Borla slightly... Id rather not pay that $ and have it modified though.
 
"true duals" should work on the T4R

Hey there I have a system on my Tundra that I will be doing soon on my 4Runner. Go to JC Whitney/Sumitt and buy the dual in/out catalytic converter, about 100 +/-. then from Sumitt order the "Hemi Super Turbo" mufflers, 2" in/out offset (21" case). Go to you local (good) muffler shop, have them remove the resonator, weld in "cat", run two 2" diameter pipes back to where the stock muffler is, he/she can then weld in both muffers side by side, run two 2" pipes out to right side (passenger) put on chrome tips.

I have this very system on my Tundra it quiet when driving around town (quiet rumble, NOT loud) and then gets very aggressive when floored (like a mustang GT). Whole system, parts are about $200 and what ever you muffler shop charges to do it. Hope you try it, it worked for me. CSM-H

Go to your friendly neighborhood muffler shop and have them put on a Magnaflow. I just had #12586 installed in mine. I believe it is the 22" model. I didn't want anything that was loud. This muffler is pretty quiet, but when you step on it, it sounds nice. Have them take off the resonator also.
If you want to go through the expense, have them take out the "Y" where the pipes come together right before the muffler. This is one of the most restrictive parts of the exhaust system, and then you can go to a muffler that has two inlets and one outlet. I didn't go this route, but I sure thought about it.

If I may you were doing great til you talked about taking out the "Y". If you do that you will loose bottom end torque, that's why I suggested to dual in/out cat, then run two pipes. It's working for me. to the other post, I'll try and get some pictures of the system on my Tundra. CSM-H

I'm definitely no exhaust expert, but not according to my muffler guy who has owned this particular muffler business for over 40 years and specializes in duals, cat backs and performance systems .
 
Just make sure you don't downgrade your system. The OEM setup is a highquality stainless system that will last the life of the SUV.
 
What exactly is the problem with fitment of the Magnaflow on the 05 V8? I plan to do a cat-back and the Magnaflow is my choice. It made a huge difference in sound on my Saleen over the Borla.

Someone on here who had the system installed reported a fitment issue with one of the exhaust hangers if I am not mistaken. I believe in the post he mentioned taking to Magnaflow to be corrected. I wasn't sure if that at this point it has been corrected for all 05 systems by Magnaflow.
 
I read the same post... he took it to Magnaflow bc he lived near there and they fixed it free of charge and said they would note it for future production... Wonder if they ever did... Im gonna call them later on today and see.

No argument with your expert, all I can say is that on this board and on Tundra Solutions and Yota tech you can read where folks have commented on the loss of bottom end torque. You can build it, but I'll disagree that it won't effect your system if you take out the "Y" or go with too large of diameter of pipe. just mine and others opinion. CSM-H

I read a post that there was a problem with the dual exhaust set-up. Is that the one you're talking about? I think the problem was with the routing of the pipe exiting on the drivers side. I believe it interferred with the spare tire somehow. They are supposedly trying to work that out.

I know it's definitely a no-no to go with too large a pipe diameter, he just mentioned that it would help to open up the "Y".
