Exhaust Heat Shield

The exhaust heat shield that surrounds the exhaust pipe on my 4Runner is about to fall off. (The shield is located approximately below the brake petal inside the truck.) The screw(s) on one side are completely gone and it's rattling away.

My first thought was that it's okay as I don't park in piles of leaves so there's little danger of starting a fire. On second thought, is the shield also protecting the bottom of the truck from excessive heat as well?

Sounds like an exhaust manifold. Which engine do you have?

Edit: I'm a derp and read that as "behind" the brake pedal isntead of below. Probably not the manifold in that case.

V6. The part I'm describing is on the single pipe located to the rear of the front tire. I'll take a photo of it tonight and post it... :thumb:

Ripped mine out about 2 years ago. Noticed no difference.
