Exhaust leak behind cat

So I have this exhaust leak... My friend who is a solid mechanic told me that I had one of two options: I could just bang a straight pipe throught the cat, or I could just cut off the cat all together. It would be registered in FL so it would be legal (more or less). Any other suggestions?

The leak is right beind the cat where it connects to the muffler.

Is it leaking before the flange, at the flange, or after the flange? If it's before or after I'd cut the section out and weld a new section back in. If it's leaking at the flange, get a new gasket for it.

Does it have 1 O2 sensor or 2 ?
If it has 2 (1 before cat and 1 after) you can't run a straight pipe.
Of its just 1 before cat, you could.
But better just to fix leak and not add to the air pollution.

Your friend who is a solid mechanic left out a few options in my opinion. One option would be to find and fix the leak, ie: gasket, weld it if able, or new piece of pipe after the cat. Or another option would be a hi flo cat or replacement if your cat is bad, which I am unsure of by your post if its your cat causing problems or a exhaust leak since you refer to banging the screens out or cutting it off to remedy your leak.
