Hey t4r goers,

Just a general question, I am trying to make a decision right now. I am currently rolling the 06' V8 SR5, and I am looking for a deeper tone for the car so it actually sounds like the 4.7 liter V8 that it has. I have been comparing systems between borla, magnaflow, gibson and flowmaster.

I have been trying to find sound clips on youtube, but all are terrible quality. I did find one video for the gibson exhaust, which sounded pretty good.

V8 Toyota 4runner Gibson Cat Back Exhaust - YouTube (I don't own the rights to this video)

Has anyone installed/had luck/have positive things to say about any of these exhaust systems they have installed on their runners? Again looking for a deeper tone so I can actually here the V8, and the added HP is always nice!

Thanks so much! :bounce:

I have a Gibson, been on for 3 years I guess, something like that. Its not terrible to drive, I mean I can always hear it for sure, but not annoying. The wife could do without, but she knows my 9 year old step and myself love it. So no complaints.

You wont regret the sound from it.

I like my borla catback but it doesn't matter since most that answer are gonna say they love the sound of the one they have so it wont really answer your question. theres a lot of threads on exhausts so a quick search will help. heres one that may be of use. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/81985-v8-exhaust-sound-video-clip-compilation-thread.html it use to have sound clips but im sure you can find some on the forum that still do.

Thanks Chaz that actually helped to see that thread! I'm still on the fence unfortunately, your right everyone will probably pick their setup, the video cameras really aren't doing any of these exhaust systems any justice. I think the only video I glimpsed off of that thread that really did a V8 justice was this one:

2004 toyota 4runner true duals drive by - YouTube

But I think that is the case because cameras really don't do any of the systems justice, and that setup probably is way louder then it sounds on video.

I think my biggest question at this point is if the Borla dual exhaust is as tame/quiet as it sounds on video, and if people prefer the sound of the magnaflow/gibson/flowmaster better. I like the dual exit look, but like I said the Borla sounds fairly tame on video.

Any chance you could put up a video of your exhaust setup Chaz?

sound clips wouldn't do any setup justice, best bet would be to find some people with different setups near you & see if they will take you for a drive & let you hear in person. at least that way you may get some idea of the differences in drone, if any, between them.

I have both a flowmaster super 44 and a magnaflow straight through muffler. The flowmaster was much louder and in my opinion sounded better (also louder, but I like it loud). The magnaflow is much quieter and more of a high pitched, less truck like exhaust note. However, the flowmaster did not have nearly enough back pressure for my truck. I was getting 14.8mpg on the freeway and had no power. I switched to the magnaflow and instantly my mpg's shot back up to 17.0 and my power is back too. I definitely recommend the magnaflow for the nice smooth tone and proper back pressure. I do have the V6 so this may differ for the V8. Hope that helps some.

Magnaflow
