exhaust problem

I have a 93 limited and I want to get a new exhaust. I dont think it really needs a flowmaster. I'm not looking for a huge bark. It already has a little one, but i would like a little more. What would be a good choice that isn't going to have the cost of a flowmaster? Thanks for the help

You didn't mention if you were doing a full cat back - or just changing the muffler - or doing a full header/exhaust swap. I will assume you are doing a cat back, have you checked Dynomax, Jardine, or Borla? I know Downey offers a full cat-back system with muffler and bent pipes. Then your only other decision will be to go with 2.25 or 2.5 diameter pipes. OHHHH the hours of reading which is "better" between the different 4 runner groups. :help:

just go on ebay and buy a new flowmaster 40 series for $45. there really not load at all if your only doing a cat back. but if u have a header or no cat....dam they are fawking loud!

Soundguy: Sorry, but I don't understand all of what your talking about. I would love to replace the exaust on my '93 but I know little of where to go to learn more about it. It would be real nice to have dual all the way back, but whatever I do, I want to do it myself.

Where can I learn more and where do you go to get prices?

btw - Would love a nice set of chrome headers, but what I've read is it's a pretty big job to get them in and it involves beating in the firewall... not really what I'm looking for. LOL

Thanks

Well, I have done the research and putting headers on these things IS NOT a fun task. It involves grinding the headers, bending some tubes - yup bangin' the floorboard (unless you have a 1inch body lift which is very easy) - fabing some connections - and then choosing the proper diameter for the exhuast pipes. The arguement is that 2.5 is good - but others say that is too much free flow and you will loose low end torque. So you should stick with 2.25. I bet both have an advantage and disadvantage.
I fear that chrome headers might become discolored quickly in that engine bay - but I have no experience there. As far as dual exhaust - You will for sure have to stick with a smaller diameter tube to keep the backpressure correct - and you will still need to make some sort of crossover to keep the exhaust pressure 'equal' if you will.

If you want to check out more - 4x4wire.com has a great forum for our model trucks that is a little more active than this. There is a tech section that has a write-up on installing these headers. The link is dead right now - but I HOPE it will be back soon. All the other links work fine. There is a lot of information and links for good vendors.
