Exhaust question 22RE

Alright so my 4runner has some cancer holes in the exhaust system, some in the muffler its self and some in the piping after the muffler. I want to replace the muffler with a better hi flow muffler and piping without sounding like a wanna-be ricer with a racing pipe dream...

What muffler could I buy to accomplish this? and what piping would I need to replace to get the benefits of the muffler?

It is the runner in my sig.

I have a flowmaster 40 series on mine. I like it. It's not overly loud, but has a good exhaust note. I'm running a stock cat though, that contributes to how loud your exhaust is.

Ya ive read that alot of people are running the 40 and 50 series flowmaster. Do you have any suggestions on the tail pipe? 2, 2.25, 2.50?

I checked out the Flowmaster site and the 50 series has the same benefits at the 40 series but has a milder cab and street sound.

So ill be going with the 50 series but now back to the size tail pipe I should run with it...?

I originally wanted the 50 series because it's said to have a more mellow tone. I ended up with a Super 44 series after finding a good deal locally. From my research, 2" pipe does the trick for these 22re's. So I'm eliminating my cat and going 2" pipe all the way. My muffler has 2.25" inlet and outlet

Taking your cat out makes it extremely loud and ricey sounding FYI.

Not too worried about it. No cat = less restriction = more efficient engine. I like the sound of pretty much all engines. Plus it's not a piece of shit muffler so I'm thinking it will sound good. Thanks though

Just make sure to have enough backpressure. The 22re needs to have the right amount of backpressure to produce the most power.

Thanks guys, Ive got some thinking to do, first on my agenda is my oil leak, then my dying clutch (waiting for taxes haha) then probably save for the muffler and piping.
