Need help, I have an 06 4th gen in getting what feels light a sputtering coming from the engine area. I’ve replaced the spark plugs, did a full synthetic oil change, mas flow sensor. It feels and almost sounds like I have a hole in my muffler. I am not loosing any power, but I am feeling some slight vibrations. My steering is not shaking. Any ideas on where to start.

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak. Common areas are where the 2 sides connect at the y-pipe. I've also had to replace my passenger side exhaust manifold as the mating surface was weak enough to not make a good seal. The metal is not very thick and then add rust from living in NE. What I did to find the leak is push a few pounds of air into the tail pipe with my air compressor turned way low and listened for the air escaping (engine off of course). I used a paint can cap with a clamp around the exhaust tip and drilled a hole so my air gun tip fit in the paint cap.

Check compression if you pull plugs, mine had a sputter that would go away after it warmed up due to coolant passing the HG into cyl 5 when the car would be parked over night, also a good thing to check is coils. do you have a reader?

Maf? Dtcs?

I played with my '07 4.0 a lot, deleted the cats, custom stainless steel 3-in flex Y-pipe type deal off of a Detroit diesel, 3 Series flowmaster, removed the entire factory air box and ran several different intake setups mandrel bent myself out of raw straight pipe sandblasted powder coated, and I would go through about a mass air flow sensor every 2 months if I bought the cheaper $80 Blue streak reman, would always sputter off take off then clear up .... would fluctuate between 0.44 lbs and 1.5lbs -would be all over the place on live data, and throw a p0 101 code and I would replace it be fine for a month or two... finally spent the money on a denso haven't had any issues yet. Are there any DTCS? MIL light on?

Thanks for these replies, I don’t have a reader, so I’ll be taking to auto zone to see what codes comes up. Also getting all new coils too. I’ll definitely look into it to see if I have an exhaust leak.
