Expectations

I don't get it, what's wrong w/this picture...

Here's my concern: If I want to create a buzz and try to generate some new activity around here, I must first, provide a subject that I feel people might be interested in; but usually a subject that I believe bares a considerable amount of misunderstanding, confusion, myth, presumption, and a fair share of just plain ole foolishness! Then... I need to prepare my 'theoretical p.o.v.', including some strong technical data. After that, I'll sit down to write an essay or a analytical assessment of the subject to be discussed, preceded by a thesis i.e., an arguable assertion by which others may be drawn or engaged, into a rousing exchange of ideas... Then I'll put together an elaborate photo gallery 'of sorts' to support the whole, entire presentation!

You OTOH... run your foot up our a#%, ripping us all a 'Hole' new one "straight out the gate", providing zero pictures (NO PIX!), no technical jargon and this frikin thread 'goes freaking ape s#*t' for crying out loud; 28 pages in just two days and then becomes some freaking EPIC EVENT; "rivaled only by 'lady gaga' and Hurricane Sandy!"

My question: "...How does he do that..." :noidea:

Man, this whole thread due to someone having buyers remorse over some features, or lack thereof, on a frkn loaded 4Runner LE...

This is an Internet forum after all and everyone is entitled to make any comment they want within the T.O.S. Compared to many, many forums the treatment of newbies or anyone asking a question or making a statement they probably should have thought through some more is really pretty mild.

1engineer's a valuable part of the forum with tons of knowledge and contributions. Sometimes his responses can be blunt but that doesn't equate to mean-spirited, just direct. It's his opinion anyhow.

Not sure how the message could be gotten across but some folks need to understand posting in forums is done at ones own risk and you may not be happy with the responses.

Even in the short time I've been on this forum it was clearly evident that 1E is a huge asset to T4R.org.

It wasn't long before he reminded me of the old EF Hutton commercials,
"when EF Hutton talks people listen."

Agreed, no mean-spirited responses, he cuts the exaggerations, uses facts, and eliminates the BS. Wish I would have paid a little more attention to his posts b4 opening my wallet.

Putting a 285 on a 7" wheel was my first costly lesson.

I'll admit, there are others that offer good solid advice. Heck, I'm finishing cleaning the rest of the sand out of my vag and seeing some great advice from Crack.

It's a great forum, I think we all owe a big :thanks: to those taking the time to provide good objective information on our favorite vehicle. :hail:
 
All I can add is that anyone who "thinks" their Toyota is expensive has some serious issues with math. For my own personal example: I bought a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser new for a bit over 24K. I drove and beat the cr@p out of it for 6 years and 75K miles. I got 19K trade in for it on my 2014 4Runner. SOOOO....My Toyota FJ cost me about $1000.00 per year...or $83.00 per month. From what I'm reading and seeing here, the 4Runners hold their value even better than the FJ did.

I've owned several other brands of vehicles, and I can state with absolute certainty that NONE of them held their value like the Toyotas do.

Maybe it's just me, but I'll take reliability and resale value any day over all that other stuff. My point is that Toyotas aren't even close to as expensive as their competitors when you look at the whole picture.

My 4Runner wasn't a very emotional decision. It was what they had available. I was actually planning to get another FJ Cruiser, but they didn't have any 4x4's left. The 4 Runner was there, so I bought it. I negotiated pricing on both a Trail and an SR5, and I just got a better negotiated deal on the Trail. That was it.

Most whiners are going to whine regardless of how good they have it. Pointless to try and help them, because what they really want is to whine. Best to just ignore 'em.

Just imagine how much our 4runners will be worth when the 6th Gen comes out as a Unibody :D

What would be the point . . . they already did . . . its called the Highlander. I believe they would eliminate the model if the numbers don't support continuing.

Rav, Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser . . . . what would be the purpose of a unibody 4r?

same as the unibody Lexus TX replacement for the GX.

the highlander and the lexus RX are the same.

the tx would compete against the rx but they are keeping both.
 
I think [MENTION=114376]Mooney[/MENTION] is saying each more off road worthy model has a corresponding road oriented equivalent, and I agree. A uni body 4Runner would be redundant when the Highlander is considered. The Sequoia is equivalent to the Land Cruiser and the 4Runner is equivalent to the Highlander. The FJ was equivalent to the Rav4 (sort of) in that it was small. I'm still surprised they killed the FJ. Even though it wasn't selling well, it had become pretty iconic, and they are still selling it globally. Apparently, it was only supposed to be a limited time run in the US all along.

The TX will be a 3-row; the next-gen RX will likely remain a 2-row. There may be some cross-shopping, but there's value in having both in the line-up, similar to how Nissan has the Murano and the Pathfinder (or Infiniti has the QX60 and QX70).

Toyota already has a 2-row crossover (Venza) and a 3-row (Highlander), so I agree that Toyota will either keep the next-gen 4Runner as-is or kill it (and not re-launch as a unibody).
