A little background, I film and edit for a living, so I'm doing my best to give these guys the benefit of the doubt as documentary filmmaking isn't tough. But the problem here, and again yes this show is free but it's criticism none the less, is that they've tried to be less about the actual act of traveling than the destinations they encounter.
The issue is that during the Alaska trip those peppered the journey and made it more than a show about driving up along a highway. They've flopped that ratio and the results are boring, mainly because Clay and his group aren't as interesting of hosts. Clay's narration is painful, but they're not trained media personalities, so again I'm trying not to hold that against them.
It's also a bit funny to see these massively outfitted rigs driving through south america and attempting to blend in. If they do a formal season 3 I'd like them to try to get back to Season 1's ratio of more traveling and less being a travelogue.
I also wouldn't be lying if I openly acknowledge that this show has influenced some buying decisions. The CBI bumper was certainly a result of seeing their rigs with no front armored bumper and thinking, "yeah, okay that's cool."
It's branded content, but that doesn't mean it can't be more balanced or better done.
