Experience Replacing Tire Carrier?

Has anyone replaced the OEM tire carrier? I assume the assembly is held on with a few bolts from the top?

I'm replacing mine this weekend.

Been there done that.... Took one look and took it to the dealer to have it done... The bolts securing it have to have been put in by a masochist engineer....

I have done it twice. And it is a PITA. Six bolts, that are not easy to reach, and they are usually too rusted to remove the normal way. In both cases, I wound up using an air chisel to cut the old bolts off and replaced them with new stainless ones. Also, while the first one I replaced was the same cable type as the one I removed, the second time the replacement from Toyota was a chain type. Apparently Toyota has stopped selling the cable style, and is now selling the chain type instead.
