Just wanted to share my experience with both. Take it for what it's worth. Just installed my roof rack and very happy.
Gobi:
I thought about it for over a year, checked out most other brand options, and put my order online to order a stealth rack from Gobi. Two days later a gal named Alex called me. I was at first confused who she was, cause she didn't sound human, and sounded like a machine or spam. She couldn't talk to me normally, and I refused to give someone my credit card information over the phone I didn't trust. I was polite, just a bit taken aback by the smug, condescending attitude of someone calling me on the phone acting as if I were taking her time up. She told me there would be at least a 15 week lead time. 15 weeks!!! She sounded like a teen-something bitter at life and refusal to be 'kind' or personal.
She told me someone would call me back. They never did.
She wrote me a passive aggressive email stating that if I wanted one of their racks I shouldn't order through them, but through a 3rd party.
...and that's the last time I'd ever consider anything from Gobi again.
Baja:
The next day, I decided to call Baja Racks and order a flat utility mesh rack. I talked with an lovely soul named Arosia. We talked for about 15-20 minutes about work, life, etc. We laughed and talked about how funny it was that she knew exactly what car I had -- a 4runner, and how she the '4runner guys' all sounded the same.
She asked if I was part of the forum, and I said yes.
She then told me that I was such a lucky guy, and that she had my exact rack in the warehouse and san diego...and the lead time would be .... THREE DAYS. AND...on top of that, give me a discount because I was being so nice.
I received the rack and put it on, took about 40 minutes. It looks super badass, already got compliments, and is built VERY WELL. Extremely good welding and very sturdy.
----
So at the end of the day, it's up to you. What team do you want to support? What rack suits you? For now, Baja was the clear winner in my camp.
In today's world of social insanity, lack of interpersonal skills, selfishness, vanity, and lack of common respect for neighbor, I think quality of customer experience is just as important as the product.
Just my two cents.
