Can you typically convert suspension from regular to extended travel?

For example, King's coil over for 2010+ 4runner is king 25001-278, and the extended travel is king 25001-278-EXT. It seems the -EXT is the same but with the "spacer" removed. So couldn't anyone with a king 25001-278 just remove the spacer and have the "extended travel" version?

Yep. Remove the spacer and you're good to go. Problem is most people aren't mechanically adept enough to do that because it basically requires a "rebuild" on a brand new shock. Oil and nitrogen.

I did exactly that on a recent rebuild. It's that easy.
