As long as you purchase a Toyota Certified warranty it can be serviced at any dealership. The one I purchased from Acton Toyota is Toyota Certified, and I believe Jerry Johnson sells them as well. Just make sure you purchase a Toyota Certified warranty. I bought a 7yr/100K miles Toyota Certified Platinum $0 Deductible Wty for my 2012 LE for $840 from Acton Toyota a few months ago.

As has been noted many times on this thread, it doesn't matter where you get your warranty. Your vehicle is covered regardless, at any dealer. You just need to be in the database. You'll get some paperwork, and a receipt, from the dealer you purchase it from. Then you'll get some more official-looking paperwork from Toyota itself. This would be handy to keep in your vehicle, in case they've screwed up putting you in the database (happens more than you think). I'd give Troy a call. His direct number is mentioned in several places in this thread.

For those of you thinking about purchasing an extended warranty, you should read the e-mail below I got from Acton Toyota in MA today. I purchased a Toyota Certified Platinum $0 Ded Ext Wty (VSA) from them a couple of months ago. The warranty is still valid, but apparently they won't be able to sell them anymore over the internet or to out of state customers. This may also affect Jerry Johnson in Kansas...

Now let's just hold on a minute. This letter refers to the Vehicle Service Agreement, which is not the same thing as the extended warranty. Now perhaps this policy from Toyota Financial will be adopted for extended warranties too, but I haven't found anything to indicate that is coming, from my online investigations. FWIW, YMMV, yada yada yada...

Umm...yes they are...Toyota refers to the extended warranties as "Vehicle Service Agreements" or VSA's...read this.

This is my concern too. I have 3rd party warranty right now, which I'm okay with but If I can get a "Toyota" warranty on top of what I already have for less then the dealer offer then I'm in.
But then my question comes up, are their any issues I need to worry about from previous 4Runner owners.

Interesting.. I was waiting to get close to the end of my factory warranty, knowing that I had Jerry's number in my back pocket. Wonder if this means I would need to give him a call earlier than expected -- or worse yet, if this program is over entirely. The article says Toyota pulled the plug in May, but front the post just above, it seems like Jerry's still in business and emailing just last week. If no one has any more information about this I may end up giving him a call to see what's up.
I want to jump in and recommend Jerry at Midwest in Kansas. I called him, talked with him & bought from him. (Mid April I think) Tried to negotiate with my dealer in Denver - best price they could come up with was over thousand dollars higher. He was super & seems to me to be super honest. All the paperwo professional rk has come in the mail exactly as he said it would. Fortunately, I haven't had a chance to use the warranty or to check to make sure its in the Toyota computer system. But, I feel confident and even pleasure to recommend this follow. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Just spoke to Jerry about this and he mentioned he's still in business. The dealerships that were mentioned in this article were advertising on the internet and drawing customers this way -- which according to corporate, is "improper". He's operating on recommendations and word-of-mouth so this doesn't apply to him. That being said, I'm definitely giving him my business as he was up-front and honest with all my questions. Told me that I can buy the extended warranty now or later. It's up to me. And that his prices are competitive and should be close if not the same no matter when I pull the trigger. I've spoken to him a couple times now and he sounds like a stand-up guy. Like I said, I'll be giving him another call when the time is right for me.
That's a good question. I certainly needed one on my 2004 Toyota sienna AWD w/ power sliding doors. I had a 100k warranty on that one. Little did I know that I should have gotten the 125k warranty when the Cat convertors started going out as well as one of the power sliding doors. Then the front struts, etc.... Of course the power sliding door recall came AFTER I traded in the Sienna for my 2011 4Runner Ltd. At least I got a $1000 check from Toyota good toward the purchase of a 4Runner. Go figure....they'd rather give me money to buy a new car than fix my old one.
The 4Runner is my commuter car. Except for DC's Grand Canyon sized potholes and metal patch plates everywhere, I don't go off-road much except during the winters in the mountains. Without a power liftgate, I don't forsee anything else failing besides the usual wear and tear items that warranties don't usually cover.
I purchased by 2011 TR4 in November 2011 and already have 34,500 miles on it. Should I just go for a 6 year 125k or 7 year 125k? Decisions...decisions...

Yes, used mine a few weeks ago. Had some brake issues, covered everything (except pads, which @ 33,000 miles I'm ok with). Wty just pd for itself two times over.
Transaction was seamless/painless.
I bought my wty with my 4R, as my dealer matched the i-net price. Turned out to be money very well spent.
