Extended Warranty

SO if I lived in Kansas at the time I purchased my 4Runner but it was bought across state line in Missouri I can only buy an extended warranty in Missouri? I thought I would be covered since Jerry is in Hutch and I am in Kansas, but maybe not.

That being said if things continue like they have so far, I may not even need to consider one.

As far as I understand it, it doesn't matter where you live, where you purchased the vehicle, or where the vehicle is currently located. You can purchase extended warranty from any dealership and it will all work the same no matter which dealership you go to get it service at. The only difference is the price you pay. I'd give Jerry (or any Toyota dealership) a call anyway to double check.

When the i-net price is as low as it is, and you look at its cost on a per year basis, I consider it cheap/reasonable insurance. See my post at #180. I'm sure not sorry I bought it.

Plus it's $0 deductible, refundable if not used, and transferable.

They may be Toyotas, but at the end of the day they're still machines, and machines break.

extended warranties no longer available through Jerry @ Midwest Toyota

So I called Jerry last week as I had been planning on purchasing a Toyota extended warranty for my 2011 4Runner and he informed me that "Toyota" will no longer allow him to sell these over the phone. He explained that apparently dealers have complained about this practice and that his last phone sale was on Feb. 1st. He made it seem like this was a change in Toyota's national policy, so with little hope of getting my extended warranty at a reasonable price (local dealers had quoted astronomical prices for the same warranty) I called Troy at Toyota of Greenfield and asked him for pricing. He said that he could still sell them when contacted directly but could not advertise online. I ultimately purchased the extended warranty through Troy (just got my documents in the mail). Not sure if Jerry's issue is with his Toyota region, but for those thinking of purchasing an extended warranty, I suggest you take care of it sooner rather than later. BTW, the transaction with Troy was quick and easy, and he offered nearly the same pricing as Jerry (couple of dollars difference).

On a side note, I've seen on this thread where folks have copy/pasted direct e-mail communications with Jerry, including warranty options and pricing, making it seem like Jerry was advertising on the forum directly. Maybe this is what got Jerry in trouble with the powers-that-be. I would avoid copy/pasting any e-mail communications with Troy to avoid giving the impression that Troy is advertising these warranties online.

Wow, that is incredibly unfortunate.

That's unfortunate to hear. So would you recommend calling Troy at Greenfield for those that are looking into purchasing an extended warranty?

Yes, absolutely. I would recommend you contact Troy. Like I mentioned above though, I would avoid copy/pasting into the forum any direct communications you might have with him regarding options or pricing out of concern that someone at Toyota might consider that "online advertising", which he is not supposed to do.

Get it while you can and keep it on the DL! :gossip:

I was planning on going through Jerry as well until I found out the hassle he is going through with "in person" transactions.

Fortunately, this doesn't appear to be a Toyota Corporate policy, and i've found a local dealer out here in AZ, who is willing to match Jerry's prices on the Toyota Extended Warranties. He will also sell them over the phone.

I'm going in tomorrow to sign my contract, and will ask if he will also sell to out of state buyers. Once confirmed i'll provide his contact info.

This is great news, can you copy and paste the prices he will match please.

I would suggest you DO NOT post pricing info in the forum. There is a Toyota policy that was pushed nationwide last year that prohibits the online advertising of these extended warranties by dealerships. This was intended to curb the sale of warranties online by folks like Jerry. I suppose local dealers complained to Toyota HQ since they typically charge ridiculous profit margins on these and they didn't want to compete with online vendors pursuing volume. Posting pricing info online could be misinterpreted as online advertising - the scenario I believe got Jerry in trouble with Toyota such that he is no longer allowed to sell these over the phone.

Contact info is already posted above, please either contact the dealership directly or share the information privately via PM.

Just my 2 cents.

+1 do NOT repost... :thumb3:
I would go a bit further and even say delete those names listed and simply tell guys to PM if somebody needs a name.

I was literally ready to buy from Jerry only to have him tell me that he couldn't sell to me after we were all set to finish up. Not fair for him especially with the amount of time he probably spends with people including me and doesn't get paid. My warranty runs out in a couple weeks and if I weren't 7 days a week right now, I'd grab my wife and head his way on a little shopping trip.

Best wishes all!

i was thinking the same thing, driving to him and picking one up personally. but the 600 mile drive, gas, room, food would raise the price back to the local dealer cost.

:(

I bought my 2013 SR5 from Corwin in Fargo, ND. We bought the extended warranty when we bought the truck. When all the finalized paperwork arrived at the house, the warranty was NOT the Toyota warranty. The dealer basically said tough sh!t when asked for our money back. I kept all paperwork in hopes to have the work done (listed in the paperwork) and reimbursed later. What I'd like is to buy the real-deal toyota 100K warranty from a reputable dealer. Unfortunately, I'm deployed with no chance of calling or visiting a dealer to buy one. Do yall any suggestions? I glanced through the thread and didnt see any e-mail addresses. Again, I did a quick glance and our interweb connection here sucks!

Thanks for any help!

now that doesn't sound right. you should be able to cancel your extended warranty and have a pro-rated refund but there is a catch. if the ext warranty is finance with the vehicle load, then the refund goes back to the bank/finance company, otherwise it goes to you.

another option that isn't widely discussed is MBI (mechanical breakdown insurance) from geico if you go thru them. its comparable/better than ext warranties depending on how you look at it.

Well... I thought I was all set... sent my info to an out of state dealer and talked with him this morning and he told me he's been contacted as well by Toyota and cannot sell me extended. :(

This makes 2 of this guys listed here I've talked to... my warranty is just about up now too.

Can someone PM me a contact to purchase through? Thanks!!
