That I am not sure of as its considered CPO. I don't see why it would be any different but considering your not the original purchaser it may be viewed differently. Sorry I don't have any other info.

First post and first time 4runner owner. Just purchased a 2014 SR5 Premium (Black on Black). Long story short. I bought the truck and was told I would have it in 2 days...turns out I wont get it until the 9th of July. So the dealership is offering to try to make up for their mistake which is great! They are willing to sell me the 7yr/100000mi extended warranty for $1000 or 2 years of service for free or a free remote start(I live in GA so the remote start to me is not that big of a deal...I grew up in ND and couldnt live without it). The day I bought my vehicle they were trying to sell me the same warranty and 2 years of service included for $2575....I just laughed. Which is the best option? The 2 years of free service and shop for a good priced extended warranty? Or the $1000 extended warranty? Thanks for the help.

Congrats on the new purchase, emporerofathens! It is my understanding, that like previous years, every new 2014 Toyota receives two year/25k mile free maintenance and roadside assistance through ToyotaCare. Gotta love dealers...

don't get the 2yr service. its already part of the new purchase and its crap. they wont actually replace the oil per Toyota unless its 10k miles being its synth.
so they are just charging you 2600 for the 3rd party ext. warranty probably.

Thanks VTHokie and NoDak.....The 2 year free service is in addition to my 2 years already so 4 in total...So with that said you think I should still stay away from the 2 year service?

I'd take the EW in a heartbeat. That's a good price. Make sure it's genuine Toyota tho, and it s/b a $0 deductable too. This is good anywhere you go, and could possibly be of real value. It is also transferrable, and pro-rated refundable if you never use it.
I bought mine off the inet, more on a whim, and it >pd for itself with some brake issues I had, post-36,000.
I'm impressed the dealer offered you some compensation - most would not.

I was contemplating going with the 2 year service and shopping for a good deal on EW....Then NoDak was saying the 2 year service is crap....So with that being said I was thinking maybe I should go with a remote start. I saw a few people say they paid a little over $1000 for toyota's EW...What do you think about that?

the 4runner come with a 2yr service package. that package honored by Toyota will only cover 2 oil changes (10k and 20k mileage) if you do that much driving in 1/2 years. if you take longer than a year to get 10k miles, you will only get 1 oil change.
now if you follow that same convention, getting another 2 yrs on top of that, you will be paying $$$ for another 2 oil changes (be honest here, do you expect them to do anything else besides oil changes in that service plan).
go with the ext warranty at that cheap cost and buy the alarm/remote start as a 3rd party option.
if you get the remote start/alarm it will cost the dealer worst case $600-700. if you go out and buy a ext warranty your gonna be looking at 1400-1700 range based on the 8yr/125k plat plan.

I would go for the warranty (assuming it's the Platinum). Whether you use it or not it will have value when you sell. I bought the Platinum 7/100 for $1250.
Extended warranty
You might also check with insurance companies for "Mechanical Breakdown Insurance" which is usually less mexpensive than dealer warranties. I don't know what extended warranties cover because I usually get MBI, which covers almost everything bumper to bumper.

Don't give up, an extended warranty for a decent price can still be had.
I bought a T4R trail last week, the dealer wanted a little over $2k for 8 yr 100k. I told him I wouldn't be paying that much and would call him sometime this week (today). I checked with one of the dealers mentioned on this thread, and was told that indeed he could not sell out of state. I'm not sure what could be going on with the dealers you talked to, but the only issue I ran into was price, and I resolved that as I described in my previous post.
You might check back in the thread and see if you have a relative or good friend in one of the states with a dealer offering good prices, and buy using their mailing address.

This is great discussion! I am most likely getting a TE this month and would like to get a Toyota Extended Warranty. It sounds as though there are less options to bargain for a fairly priced EW. When I bought my 12 Sienna SE, they ambushed us as we were signing papers with finance person, saying "what if entune fails?". I'm in PA and I am wondering who I should talk to if I call around to different dealerships for pricing. Sales manager, Internet sales? Also, whats a fair price for 7yr/100000mile? Just trying to figure out how to bargain for it.

just picked up a 2014 Rav4 for the daughter, actually I did the haggling she is paying for everything herself.
dealer I bought it from wanted $1900 for a 7/100 and I reacted unfavorably with that price. haggled and still wouldn't budge. called another dealer while I was there and got $1050, about $150 more than the norm but at least it was reasonable for me and them.
also inquired about my 4runner, offered $1125 for the 7/100, again reasonable for both of us. told him I would commit to those prices and will be down next Saturday to pick them both up.
also inquired about a 7/125 but if it doesn't work out, I still have the 7/100 in email.
