So yes I did not read the whole thread before and i now see that jerry was a popular guy on this thread. I have never posted his prices on any forum and I was just sharing a name of a guy who gave me a good deal on a warranty in the past. I had nothing tondo with him getting in trouble.

GEICO Mechanical Coverage
Hi guys! Speaking of warranties, does anyone have the GEICO mechanical coverage? I didn't' buy a Toyota warranty yet, but was thinking about going with GEICO. It appears that GEICO covers entire systems, as opposed to just simple parts. Also GEICO covers accidental damage, which I thought was great (if a kid pours a coke on the NAV system it's covered. Also the blood on the kids seat will be covered too...) Lastly with GEICO, you can take your ride to any legit mechanic, which I kind of like because I haven't heard amazing things about our local dealerships.
Anyway, just curious. Also I read through this thread, but am a little lost- so there was a guy out of state who was hooking up the good deals, but now is not? Does anyone have an alternate source? Sorry for the boring questions- I just want to make sure i'm protecting my investment to the best of my ability.
Side note- is it possible that all the warranty stuff is moot because the truck is made damn well and really won't need much if I do the maintenance?

I talked to Jerry last week, he can sell to anyone in any state. The catch is that you have to pick up the warranty in person, or have someone you know pick it up for you. He can not mail out the paperwork. He also sent me an e-mail stating everything he said on the phone.
"Toyota has made a Rule change on how a customer can purchase the Toyota warranty and how I can offer it.
A customer can still purchase the Factory Platinum warranty from any Toyota dealer in the USA
Here is the new rule you can still purchase the warranty over the phone if you purchase from a Toyota Dealer in your state but to purchase the warranty out of your state you can no longer purchase over the phone you would need to come in person to the dealership to make the purchase in person
Toyota has had dealers complaining so this should make them happy
I have all ways had a lot of customers come from out of state to purchase because they like to make the purchase in person and I do understand this may not work for everyone.
I can still help you with the warranty if you would come in and see me but if not and understand this is not fair to us all a lot of customers have been calling the 800-331-4331 complaint department"

doesn't really work when you have to drive xxx miles, stay the nite and drive back. the savings is eaten up by the gas and hotel room cost.
that's why when I was looking in state, 2-300 more than the other person's price was acceptable since I would be spending that much to go get it from the lower price person.

I do exactly this. But the cost is around $150 a year in extra premium, just so you know it will cost you about $1050 over 7 years.
But, the coverage makes the toyota plan look like garbage.
I have carried the Geico coverage on 3 consecutive vehicles, and have used it once for something major. Had a major failure that would have cost me around 2k, and for $50 it was covered.
Oh and if you carry the "mechanical breakdown coverage" as it is called, glass claims are lowered to a $50 deductible if you don't have coverage for that as well. Normally glass falls under comprehensive, and can also make your insurance go up on a claim, and this avoids that from happening.

That's great to hear- thanks for sharing! Here in AZ I was told it's $76 per year, I'm not sure how often that price goes up or not. Looks like great coverage should I need it and thankfully all I've heard is now reliable Toyota is anyway- so hopefully I won't need to use it much.

Extended warranty
I'm not a big fan of extended warranties. They usualy only cover the drive train or major componets. I usually get mechanical breakdown insurance (from an insurence compay). It's less expensive than a warranty and covers the vehicle from bumper to bumper.

You can purchase ToyotaCare extended warranty from any dealer by phone. Just do some googling for it. I found a dealer up north who sold me one on my Tacoma for $900 less than the dealer offer where I bought truck. This link is for the dealer I used
