Extended Warranty

I'm not a big fan of extended warranties. They usualy only cover the drive train or major componets. I usually get mechanical breakdown insurance (from an insurence compay). It's less expensive than a warranty and covers the vehicle from bumper to bumper.

What insurance company/companies have you purchased a mechanical breakdown policy from?

The term "mechanical breakdown" sounds limited in scope. They actually cover bumper to bumper - all issues and not just "breakdown"?

Vox - thanks for the Geico thread - mechanical breakdown insurance. It's cheaper for sure, but I would be concerned about the "caveat" section I found at their web site.

*MBI Exclusions

Exclusions to this policy include regular maintenance services such as tune-ups, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, filters, lubrication, coolant and fluids, spark plugs, brake pads and linings, brake shoes, and tires. Also, breakdown repairs made necessary by intentional damage, corrosion, misuse, or improper maintenance are not covered. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance coverage is in excess of coverage provided by your manufacturer's warranty. Read the policy amendment for the complete terms and conditions of this coverage

Mention is made about being able to use any "licensed" repair shop.

I'm a DIYER; therefore not "licensed". All maint. related work is done by me. I would be concerned they would use this as a loop-hole to void the policy. Geico(or any ins. co.) could try to claim my work was improperly performed; then deny the claim.

For this reason, I've always shied away from mechanical warranty/insurance.

I am not flaming those who use said services, just pointing out where I stand on the issue.

Just donate your money to a good cause instead of getting suckered into extended warranty.

I have a 2011 4Runner and only thing I changed other then oil and filters are new tires and brake pads. I have 80,000 on her.

Looking for a lead in Nevada. I emailed the person offering this info a few months ago but if anyone else has some info please let me know. I just got a 2015 Trail.

Can anybody shoot me a private message on what you guys got on the following platinum plans w/ $0 deductible:

-7yrs/100,000
-8yrs/100,000
-8yrs/125,000

I will be doing a cross country trip from NY all the way to FT Irwin California and looking to pick up the best priced extended warranty on the way if I can't find one any cheaper here in NY. The dealership I got my TRD pro from offered me a 8yr/125,000 for $1699.00....... I feel like I could do couple hundred better than that. Ill be shopping around my state for better deals but in the meantime if anybody can show me what you guys are getting lately, it will help me negotiate... Looked through this thread and seems most of the prices are for vehicles couple years old..... Thanks ...

Just bumping an older thread to say I had a great experience with Troy at Toyota of Greenfield, MA. Huge savings over what my dealer had quoted me for a platinum warranty. Would recommend dealing w/ him without hesitation.

What plan did you buy and @ what cost?

Hey all - I've been lurking for a while as I am getting ready to purchase a 4runner - probably a late-model used one. I've mostly looked at CPO models from Toyota dealers, but I've come across one or two good possibilities at non-Toyota dealers, so I'm thinking about getting one of those and adding on an extended warranty.

I've talked with Troy, and he seems very accommodating, but I'd need to manage to get the warranty in-state, etc. Might be doable, but...

Could anyone recommend a dealer/seller for an extended warranty at a decent price in Pennsylvania?

Thanks!

HI All!

Just purchased a 2016 Trail Premium.... dealership offered 7yr/100,000 mi warranty for $1960. From what I'm reading throughout this thread, this price is a little high.

Advice on negotiating with them or just moving on to get a quote from a different dealership.

Also, they brochure they gave me is titled "GAI Ultimate Coverage." Is this the same type of warranty as a "Toyota Factory Warranty?"

Thanks in advance!

Resurrecting this from the dead. I spoke to Kelly Barber and see has taken over for whoever use to do it (and btw, Jerry Johnson doesn't do discounts anymore).

Prices have gone up significantly since I bought mine back in 2011 but they are still cheaper than most dealers are selling them for by nearly $1000.

I received this info from another forum member and have been passing out the information on a IM request only.

The prices below are old so they may be off a little.......Just a FYI I got the 6 year 75K for less than listed below. These are certified Toyota Care Platinum warranties with ZERO deductible.

I'd just tell him which one your interested in and see what he quotes you.

If you are still under factory warranty they should be able to provide you with something.

T3-TOYOTA 4 RUNNER 2WD, 4RUNNER 4X4,
4 YEAR 65,000 MILES $409.00
4 YEAR 100,000 MILES $529.00,

5 YEAR 80,000 MILES $474.00,

Thank you all for this information. My 4Runner had to be ordered and it should be ready for pickup next week. This kind of info is good to have prior to going to talk to the finance manager at the dealership. :boxing:

My opinion, I wouldn't buy an extended warranty at purchase of a "new" vehicle, and I surely wouldn't finance it along with the purchase. I bought mine from Jerry Johnson when the ODO hit 34K+ because it was a tremendous deal. :thumb3:

@TOYSTRY
I'm looking for a Platinum 0 deductible warranty now on another vehicle, thanks for the info on Kelly Barber: 256-824-8015, I'll be giving her a call.:bravo:

So, who knows of the best dealer on the Internet to contact for an extended warranty these days? Info on this thread is from 2009
