Yes, extended service contracts can be purchased on vehicles without an underlying mfg. warranty. It’s not as easy to purchase after the initial transaction, but it can be done.

You can purchase Toyota VSA Extended Warranties up until the time your current factory warranty expires. Problem is people wait and possible they lose out on good prices.
My first EW source DOUBLED the prices overnight. I had to search high and low to find my current contact and their prices are about 5% higher then my first contacts but still the best I could find.

I bought a platinum wrap 100k mile bumper to bumper for my used 4Runner. Bought it as a "service plan" and it is financed into my loan. Is this a good warranty?
Some things not covered under MPP.. is this normal?
Other parts not covered (except as described under Care Coverage) are glass, lenses, tires, wheels, wheel covers, hard and soft trim, weather strips, convertible or vinyl tops, moldings,
bright metal, sheet metal, body panels, body parts, bumpers, chassis frame, cross members, body rails, body hinges, carpet, upholstery, paint, belts and hoses, exhaust system (except exhaust manifolds), catalytic converter, brake rotors and drums, shock absorbers, spark/glow/plug wires, batteries, hybrid/lithium/high voltage battery pack, battery cables, wiper blades or inserts, keys/key fobs/transponders/keyless remote switch. In addition, correction of air and water leaks, wind noise, squeaks and rattles, and contaminated fuel systems are not covered.

Contracts certainly become more expensive 1 day out of mfg warranty, but can still be obtained from a dealer who participates in after sale programs. The dealers generally require a thorough inspection and the contract generally comes with a waiting period to account for pre-existing conditions.

All dealers can sell you the Toyota VSA as long as you're within your factory warranty. Price is the same from day one until the very end of your factory warranty, you just have to find the dealer that has the best price.
After the warranty period it does tend to go up quickly, your right.

Were you still within the Toyota factory warranty? The warranty they are selling you is not Toyota VSA, it is 3rd party. Not saying that's bad, it might be a decent warranty, I'm just not familiar with this one you purchased.

I way overpaid for an extended warranty through the dealer at purchase only to find out its a 3rd party warranty and not through Toyota so I'm going to cancel it, collect the prorated refund (-3 months) and repurchase a VSA.
