Save your money and DO NOT buy the extended warranty. You're better off putting away the money into a fully funded emergency fund. I was suckered into buying the extended warranty back in 2005 and didn't even use it because the truck was so reliable. That was almost 15 years ago and I wish had that $1200 dollars back. When I'm ready to buy a new 4R again(in about 5 more years) I will do without the warranty. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

IMO, the extended warranty question goes to your risk aversion and your personal discipline. In purely financial terms, you're probably losing money with the extended warranty on a reliable vehicle that is well maintained.
On the other hand, if you're unwilling to take the chance on a really big problem where you exceed the cost of the premiums for the warranty then you're just buying insurance - something most of us do. The other issue is whether or not you have the discipline to put the money you save on the warranty into a "bad day" fund. For some folks it's easier to simply add it to the purchase price and pay it out over time. It's just the cost of having a new car.
So, I think the answer is different for each of us depending on what we're buying, our ability or desire to fix things ourselves, are we willing to take the risk of a catastrophic failure, and do we have the discipline to actually save the money for a future problem.

Hindsight is always 20/20 and those people who didn't get "value" out of their warranty will say it isn't worth it, while those that had a steering rack or other expensive bits replaced will swear by an extended warranty.
Extended warranties are insurance - obviously not mandated like car insurance but the same thing. I haven't filed a claim with GEICO in years - have I wasted those premiums?
Extended warranties need to be viewed individually. What is your risk tolerance? Can you afford a $5000 repair or is a couple of thousand worth peace of mind for 10 years?

That's correct, it's mainly a security blanket of "just in case" yes, Toyota makes very reliable vehicles, that's whey we are here but things can happen.
Also people are on the fence when the dealer busts out a number like $3200 for a 8 year / 120K mileage extended warranty I would second guess the decision as well but when you can get that same plan for thousands less it makes more sense.
To each their own, some say yes and some say no.... the choice is up to you.

Just picked up my new 2019 4runner Limited 4wd. Would like to get some extended warranty info. I only drive 3-4k miles a year, so the length instead of miles would be good. Maybe 75-80k total but 8 years with no deductible. Toyota warranty.
