Extended Warranty

good info.just got 2010 4runner and was told by dealer toyota had special offer for loyal customers.so i purchased 8yr 75000 ex warr.was told toyota was selling at cost.so i bought for 1475 which of coarse list price.was not happy.cancelling now,but not happy with dealer that lied and try to cheat me out of alot of $.so be careful when purchase.you saved me alot of money, thanks!

If you financed the warranty and choose to cancel it they apply that money back to your loan balance, they don't issue you a check. I found this out after speaking with Toyota. I was in the same situation, paid $1360 for a 4 yr / 125K warranty and then found out I could get it from another dealer for $775. My dealer has since matched that price and has submitted the paperwork to Toyota to have the $585 difference applied to our loan. If your dealer won't match it I suggest you call Troy Dietrich at the dealership noted below, nice guy, he was the one who offered me the $775 price.

Great post- may just be calling Jerry on Tues.:zoom:
And Troy.....

I think i'm going to go with Jerrys 8/100,000 for $1039.00. I avg. about 10k miles a year.

Yeah, those are pretty fantastic prices. I'm guessing that mine will get only 8000mi/year, so I'll probably do the 7 year 75,000mi.

I wish that I could purchase an extended warranty for my GTI for these sorts of prices. That thing is the one that will need it. :(

Either Jerry or Troy had a 8/75,000 for around $800.

Just an update folks.

I bought a new '10 Taco Crew Cab, Long Bed in a rather righteous Speedway Blue yesterday (I pick it up in 4 hours, 42 minutes, and ..........Yes I am counting :frog:)

When we got to the freaking business manager and he quoted me $1450 for a 7 year 125,000 warranty I quoted these prices to him. Less than 5 minutes later he was back and we signed the papers on a 7yr/125,000 warranty for $1145.

I must thank all of you folks for helping with this price so I did not get f@cked up the ass hard and put away wet.

His original offer was 6years, 75,000 miles for......you'll love this one.......The original $1450 price.

Once again, you folks prove that this forum is the best out there for 4Runners.

My wife's hot liitle ass gets to drive the '07 Runnah and I get a *****in' truck too. I almost cried taking my plates off the Runnah. What an awesome truck....But I'll still get to driver her every once in a while.

Interesting Cannondale, that your post contains fairly 'blue' language, and your sig quotes scripture.

I have been reading this forum for the last two months since I picked up my 2010 TE. On the 30th day, I went and cancelled my extended warrantee (7yr - 75K) and called one of the guys below for the (8yr-75K) and saved enough to add some mods with some money left over.
I received my check in the mail today back from the dealer....

Just wanted to add a note as I just purchased extended warranty for my Nissan Armada.

Since I bought the Armada prices were up (I bought through a dealer through the net at best prices available).

Since I purchased my Armada a $75 fee for purchasing extended warranty after 12,000 miles had been added

Since I purchased my Armada Nissan put a new policy in place requiring a 95 point inspection of the vehicle. This cost me $100.

Now the good thing with the inspection is they caught two items that are covered under OEM warranty but not under extended warranty. That paid for the inspection so I have no clue why they make this inspection required. Either everything works (and the dealer makes the $100) or there are troubles and they have to pay for it as your vehicle is within warranty (or you can't purchase the OEM extended warranty).

Either way my point with this post is -- if you like me were planning on waiting to month 35 / 35,000 miles (I was at 35,800 :D) then consider it again.

I will buy my extended warranty for the 4runner within 2 months (to spread out the purchases). Current driving is enough to figure out that we drive about 1,000 miles / month so I will simply get the 8 /125,000 (figuring driving will increase). The risk with waiting is an increased cost for the warranty (Toyota's recent problem are likely to drive up the warranty cost internally and then increase the EW cost), additional requirements etc

Just got off the phone with Jerry Johnson

until this thread I had no idea that I could even haggle for pricing on warranties. I've wasted much money in the past I guess. Read this thread and contacted Jerry. He's a super nice guy and listed the prices just as they were previously posted here. I'm going with the 5 year 125K for $799. I drive a lot :/

FYI, unless Toyota has changed their policy, an extended warranty can be purchased ANYTIME during the original factory warranty period.
I purchased mine in month 35 of my factory warranty period.
IIRC, I paid $585 + tax for the 7 year 75K, 0 deductible Toyota Platinum Warranty.
A little confused. So when you bought the plan at month 35, you had about 4 years left on the plan? Still a good price... Thanks.

Yesterday I purchased a 2012 Camry SE and when I was in the finance office they tried to sell me a Toyota Extended warranty for $1300.00, I had a printed copy from Jerry Johnson of the same plan for $749.00. The finance girl had a funny look on her face, which was priceless; I told her that I would love to buy the warranty from them but if they could not match that price, I was going home and buying the same plan from Jerry. The finance girl went and spoke with the manager and they agreed to match the price.
I hate buying a new car, but I felt pretty good when I walked out of her office.

They also tried to sell me the following;
Paint Protection
Fabric Protection
Lo-Jack
Rust Proofing
Maint. Plan
Extended Corrosion Protection warranty

When the nice girl tried to start her sales pitch, I told her not to bother, I was not interested and it would save us both time.

I was wondering the same thing, if go in and buy an extended warranty 30000 miles from now do I start at 0 or 32000. If I start at 32000, I would seriously consider it.

I'm seriously thinking about calling Jerry and cancelling my current plan of 5 years/75,000 miles, $0 deductible for $1,466. I was robbed. Car has 312 miles on it and service contract was bought Nov. 26, 2011...
