Well, the Stickies/basics are always there to help/guide you. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/82033-3rd-gen-4runner-buyers-guide.html As well as this one: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/69744-tutorial-documentation-reference.html (Especially where maintenance is involved).

Thanks, man. This forum did wonders for me on my search for one and I know it'll serve me well with taking care of her.

Oh, nice! Audi's are great..but dang expensive to fix!

Pfft!! Try having an A4 (turbo) and a Twin Turbo Audi allroad. Yeah my wallet's always shrinking.. :gun4:

PS: Yeah, this is actually one of the coolest forums I've been to/been a member of.

I call BS on this entire thread...

You have no idea how badly I wanna lift it! Unfortunately, I'm starting college and already get around 14mpg. The dark side of having an suv.. :vader:

That's why I'm asking for advice! Didn't know if it would "accent" the emblems or not. Don't wanna thug it up haha.

First, you are getting 14MPG in a 2WD? Sorry bud, but you got some serious maintenance issues you need to work out. Spend your money there.

It's all good, man. Yeah, my other car is a 1.8 turbo a4 audi..so I'm used to 29mpg ish. At least now I don't feel like a princess! Do you think black emblems would look alright though? I don't wanna make it trashy..but the "Golden Mr. T package" emblems aren't really my thing haha.

Second, you are just starting college and you have a 4runner and an audi? Just buy the f-ing lift and quit complaining about the small decrease in fuel economy. I drove a 92 buick century in college that was handed down from my grandma, parents, and 2 older sisters. You kids today...

BS. :toilet:

Like I said, that is me trying to average it out myself, care sharing what size tank it is? Maybe I got it wrong.

Not to make things awkward...but No. My grandmother passed away last year and my grandfather had no need for two cars. We're really tight and my parents couldn't afford to give me a vehicle (I was driving an old minivan that overheated every half hour of driving) so my grandfather gave it to me as a gift. I've loved and cherished it but it's too small and I can't afford to fix things on it so my family was forced to take out a loan at the bank for the 4runner. Purchased it purely for reliability. I'm trying to sell the Audi right now. As for college, I'm going because my grandfather is helping pay and I was able to receive almost a full ride from financial aid and athletic scholarships. So no, I'm not some rich brat. I work very hard for the money I do have and God has blessed me with a very loving family and great opportunities.

Ditch the brush guard and tail light covers (Dead weight).

New wheels/tires, led/clear lenses, and put your money into a SUPER CHARGER.

Go for maximum two wheel drive performance, and remove the BLING.

Nice Runner! I'm also on the side of ditching the brush guard. Or maybe paint it? I just think it's a lot of chrome. As far as the wheels, you can't go wrong with a set of stock Tundra spit 5 spokes or a set of LC wheels. Both look great on the third gens. You could maybe find a set for less than what you'd get for those wheels you have now.

I meant it light-heartedly. I am sorry for the way thing had to work out for you. I went to college on loans, worked during college, came out with a ton of student debt, and as I said, drove a hand me down vehicle. Sorry the sarcasm didn't come across, hope you weren't offended.

I apologize as well. I didn't catch the sarcasm. Just wanted to establish I'm certainly not some rich kid brat..I'm very fortunate, but I'm not some stuck up brat. Well, this is awkward...What now? Just playin' haha.

Yeah, I agree, the chrome is blinding haha. Definitely gonna look into the wheels and getting the guard off. What hood deflector do you guys use? (if you have one). The one in the picture came cracked up and finally broke into three pieces.

my opinion?

get rid of that hideous "pimp my ride" chrome brush guard.

if you are only getting 14 mpg you should put some money into determining that engine problem. maybe a 30,000 engine service, maybe an MAF or a bad CAT.

I laughed so hard. Best comment I've seen on here haha! :bravo:

Good idea..I saw this was supposed to get like 17 city though? Accounting for the extra weight and tires..is 14 really THAT ridiculous?

I'd say it's a little on the low side for being as stock as you are. I'm running a 3" lift, 32" E load tires, bumper and sliders and I get around 15-16mpg in the city.

No worries, it's all good.

Honestly, I don't think it looks bad at all as is. I am not a fan of the brush guards, but I think they look good (just don't really function much). Though on yours, I might consider knocking out the small bars in front of the lights, they make it look a little space agey. And the chrome isn't that bad either as long as it is in good condition. I kind of like the wheels.

I actually added the rear light guards to mine (in black though) because I got them for free from HuntNFish last time I was at his place. A sport hood would look great on that thing if you could find a good one cheap at a salvage yard. Also, you could satoshi the grill (if you remove the brush guard, otherwise it won't really show). Here are a couple versions of the satoshi:

Also check out blcktpgsr's build thread, he did a great satoshi on his. The satoshi is really cheap too.

You don't have much extra weight (remember, you save weight without a front diff, axles, DS, and corresponding friction) unless you are carrying stuff. I don't see your tire size, but I am running 31.5's with a 2" lift, and I get 16MPG in the winter, 18-19 in the summer, so it seems to me you are seeing significantly worse economy than you should see.

Oh gosh...I only got about 220 miles on my last tank...Some SERIOUS work needs to be done. I filled up when the light came on..but still. That's TERRIBLE right?

Well, these things usually have a pretty flaky fuel light, mine turns on after about 180 miles. You really need to do the calculation based on how much you actually fill.

It really sounds like maintenance is the biggest need for you. Changing fluids is a good start, lubing your u-joints and slip yoke, maybe seafoaming your engine, plugs and wires, etc.

Yeah, I don't trust my needle..it goes up and down when it pleases haha. I'm looking to get a ScanGauge2. Ever had any experience with one of these? Seems like it would be nice to have and worth the $$$

Also, thanks for the advice! I'll for sure look into getting that stuff done.

While I'm getting bad miles per gallon..I'm getting like 100 smiles per gallon with this. I love it!
