I was told at one point that idling for very long periods of time could be bad for the engine, I believe as a result of potential low-oil-pressure situations, which is why some military vehicles and police vehicles have a "tactical idle" option that revs the engine several hundred RPMs higher than normal. Maybe that is BS or inapplicable to our engines, but just throwing it out there.

Idling very long time is bad for older diesel engine as the combustion temperature starts to decrease and fuel starts getting diluted into the crankcase oil.

Modern gasoline vehicles today this is not an issue.

Below is one article where he says he turned off his tacoma in -40 conditions for 6 hours and restarted without issues when he forgot or did not plug in the engine oil heater. Everything was fine.

I see those temperatures all winter here in Saskatchewan :canada: . All I'd recommend is the proper mixture of antifreeze and make sure your battery isn't just a cheap one and has a good amount of cranking amps. Also carry some kind of battery most backup to keep inside. If I were you i wouldn't leave it running all night, just use a catalytic heater or something similar and a good sleeping bag. As long as you have a good battery it should start up no problem in the morning.

So far I didn't get a clear window. The weather was stormy and no clear skies.Usually March is calm weather month I guess so planning for later half of March.
