Extreme Sway

My 97 sways side to side really bad. Truck drives like a damn joystick. I fixed both sway bar links and haven't seen much improvement. Almost negligible actually. Only thing i know about vehicles is when to shift so any input would be appreciated.

Have you tried Poly bushings? Check ebay you can easily pick up each set for 20 bucks.

If that wouldn't work the next thing would be ADDCO swaybars, but the price is pretty steep!

No I haven't. Pretty sure it's something else though. Both sway links are completely intact.

Spend the 40 bucks, I guarantee you will notice a huge difference.

But if your suspension is worn out that will cause excessive sway just the same

I've had bad sway caused by my rear coils in both 4runners I've owned. Replaced them both with OME ones and solved the problem both times.

How good is the poly bushings? I have OEM rubber and wonder the poly keep the truck solid than the rubber

How old are your SHOCKS ?

10 years / 100,000 miles max.

Not Sure. Bought truck with 156k and now has 191k. Day before I got it previous owner replaced front struts. But I've probaby put at least 100k worth of wear due to the way I've used the truck.

They will transform the steering for the better. When I replaced my steering rack, I moved my poly bushings from my original rack to the new one.

Also if they were a cheap brand/shock, they probably were marginal at best when they were new.

Years ago I installed the "M" brand shocks. Less that two weeks later, I replaced them with Bilsteins. What a huge difference. With the others, I thought I was going to roll if I hit a dip while going around a corner.

The other thing that you need to check or have checked is all of the tie rod ends and ball joints. The lower ball joints are known to fail around 200k.

Oh, I know that feeling well... New shocks was definitely the ticket there.

Ball joint already failed while pulling out of 7-11. Replaced it and tie rod end.
