There is a company, maybe a couple now, that make an aux fuel cell that will fit in the spare tire area. It looked like a very involved process to do it correctly. Maybe you could just get some steel skids.

These guys do a 33 gal aux fuel tank for the 5th gen. However it costs 2 grand.

I would second the recommendation to run a gas tank skid. I have the RCI offering and have had the entire weight of the truck on it and then winched off the rock. Tank was fine and the skid just needed some love from a sledge when I got home.
