Fabtech 6" on 3rd gen 4runner (hawaii)

Autobahn? Hawaii still has turns. Hawaii still has trails. Hawaii still has car accidents. Hawaii still has rollovers. Hawaii still has freeways. COG still applies.

People that prefer form over function end up with rice rockets simply because those who make clean street rides still have to incorporate function.

You know that I'm not a fan of rice rockets, you've pointed my opinion out several times. Cut springs, for example, lower FWD econoboxes. Rice-rocketeers cut their springs to mimic performance suspension. Their cars now handle like junk, perform like junk, and look like junk, even more-so than when they started.

Drop brackets are perfect examples of "truck rice." Now their owners can pretend to have big scary trucks with ability. Just like the ricers, Drop Bracket trucks now handle, look, and perform like ****. Drop Bracket lifts use the same logic, right up there with fake bead locks and chrome bull bars.

Anyone who tries to talk about ricetacular mods on here always gets blasted. Ricey mods don't belong on 4Runners. Drop Brackets don't belong on 4Runners.

We have a giant collection of amazing rigs on here. Perfect examples of those trucks can be found in Canada, USA, Brazil, Japan, Iceland, you name it. Search this whole forum through thousands of trucks, you'll still be very hard pressed to find a well built 4Runner with a drop bracket, regardless of whether it's a dirt eating monster or a waxed street queen.

Noted. I'll make sure to ask you before doing my next mod to make sure it will meet your criteria.

OP, if you want to do a fabtech or any other drop bracket kit, i say go for it. seriously, don't listen to anyone on here down-talking you for going that route. you are not modding your truck to cater to the interests of others. its as simple as that. btw, i totally dig the hawaii car/truck scene and they have some of the nicest rides i have ever seen.

That's because you have a mall crawler! :boxer:

:jk: You know I love your ride.

I agree if you want to do it to your rig I say go for it. Its your rig do what you want with it. I like the way it looks but I would never do it only because I believe the cons out weigh the pros.

This forum is for people who love runners and want to learn about their rig, make informed decisions about what mods are out there and share their experience with everyone. No one should seek approval from another imo. It takes away from the uniqueness of a build.

I just wanted to know why you were in an all caps yell. That's all.

I just think anyone defending this type of lift is a loser. Anyone who would want to run this type of lift for off road use is clearly uneducated and I don't want to sit around and let them infest our wonderful T4R.ORG.

We have enough stupid threads on here, I don't want a poor guy looking for a good lift for his 4Runner coming across this waste of a lift option and thinking that T4R owners are a bunch of bro-wanna-be-drop-bracketeers.

And if you read the last few posts, they were clearly discussing clearance and offroad ability with said waste of a lift.

Common COB, calling a guy a loser for defending this lift, and saying he's uneducated??? I know you're better than this man!

The last time I heard someone call anyone a loser, I was standing next to my 16 yr old niece, talking about some other kid from school.......

Everybody has their own tastes, and I see nothing wrong with someone doing the Fabtech lift, if that's what they want. I kinda like seeing these rigs with a 6" lift, and didn't think Flexinc's rig looked too bad that way.

Nobody is denying the fact that 3" of lift with 33's or 35's is more than enough to wheel....but some folks like to ride high! Not everyone wants a Chevy, Ford or Dodge, to put the drop bracket lift on.

I think it's commendable for someone to take a different road, rather than just do what everyone else is doing. It makes things interesting, and it's always nice to see something new! God knows I'm a fan of alot of the rigs on here, ( I have a Flashdrive full of pics of everybody's rides). However, how many times can we look at a Silver or Black 4Runner, with a black ARB/ODL front bumper, 33's on some black rims, and say "WOW! I've never seen that before!"

Don't get me wrong, if I could trade my rig in for any other, it would probably be a black sport edition, with the same lift I have now, and a black front Shrockworks bumper, Rear CBI bumper with a swing out tire carrier, some 33" Bighorns on black beadlocked Procomps, and some sliders!

But, I don't have a black runner, drive mine daily, and well, kinda like the Evergreen Pearl and all the Chrome "Mall Crawler" junk I have on it.

I've got alot of respect for you COB, alot of people on here does! Nobody has done the kind of work you've done to your rig, to make it look the way it does. Do us all a favor, and give this guy a break???

I definitely agree with COB, all the things he is saying are completely true and mostly all fact.

Yes, it does cost a zillion dollars to do one and get it dialed in right,
yes, you ruin your Center of Balance with no gain to your offroad or onroad performance.
Yes, it is mainly for looks and belongs on any large truck that will never leave pavement just like the H2
Yes, we will advise any kid who comes on here not to make this huge mistake.

Lets all be honest though, this board is not equal opportunity for modding in any way or form. Lowering your 4runner is highly disregarded here for good reason. It takes a quality, reliable product and turns it into crap. Lowering a 4runner takes away from what a 4runner is at its heart.

DB lifts are the same thing to us Hepar... Its someone unnecessarily abusing and ruining a good thing. Instead of improving on what Toyota started, they ruin it. You would be better off doing a 6" body lift on a 4runner than a DB lift. at least its reversible and any schmuck who buys it doesnt get entirely shafted not knowing what they bought.

On the flip side though, lets all give Hepar his due, and admit that if someone knows what they are doing and understands all this and still wants to do it for whatever reason that they should not be looked down upon. There are plenty of things I would love to do even though they dont make any sense whatsoever... I know they are pointless and stupid but I still want to do it to be different. I always wanted to put a Supercharged Duster engine in my old 88 Dodge Lancer. Yes, its stupid and there are about 500 better cars to mod and make faster but I would want to do that one! LOL and if I had the money I dont care what all you say, im gonna make the fastest 88 dodge lancer ever! LOL but see, even with that, Im improving something. not making it worse.

So...let me get this correct, a Fabtech lift is not the way to go right? I was thinking of doing a Fabtech 6incher and a 3 inch body lift to get 9+ inches! But after this thread I might, just maybe reconsider. :violin:

im speechless with what some people do and say to other people... its so sad, stop all the b***hing and get back to the OP.

facts and reasons > personal opinion and bashing

Wow, give the OP a break guys.

Yes, DB lifts are expensive, do not enhance performance off road, they are irreversible, etc., etc. Yes, many people who do these kinds of lifts here in Hawaii do them for looks and looks only. Their 4Runners and Tacomas will never leave the pavement, but so what? It's their truck and it's their choice to do what they want with it. It may not be anywhere near the most ideal way to go about lifting it, but it's their choice to do so if they want. Honestly, there are so many trucks in Hawaii with 6'' DB lifts and the small fat tires and I personally LOVE that stance. I would have gone with it myself if the 4Runner would have still fit in the garage after.

Love me or hate me, but everyone is entitled to build their trucks they way they want. This forum is better than all of the bashing and flaming in this thread.

I was never arguing that those facts weren't true. I just didn't feel it was necessary to use certain verbiage when giving someone your two cents. Again, if the OP started this thread asking our opinion on it, that would be different.

I would argue against this. Every so often someone will pop up asking about lowering a Runner. 9 times out of 10 it will include the photo we all know of the dropped black runner on copper rims. Plenty of people chime in saying they don't mind the look. I for one don't mind it either. Would I ever want to do it? No way. Would I ever want someone else to do it to a 4wd? Not at all. Still their choice though.

Reading though this thread kinda reminds me when my grampa read me "goldie locks and the 3 bears", everyone has choices and there are consequences that come along with that...now someone write a thread on henny penny and how the sky is falling!:wtf:

ZOMBIE THREAD... plz shoot in head

Function over form, always. Dumping money into something like this for looks is absolutely a waste of time and money... if someone wants a huge pointless lift, they should buy a Silverado or F250, it'll cover their small penis better.

What about billet grilles? People run those on blingy trucks too

We all make silly decisions. Go easy on the guy

Pansies have imperial jade highlander edition 4runners with superchargers and tundra rims!

Someone clicked on my build thread and knocked me on a mod from page 1... awesome. Ancient Artifacts man... That thing was horrid. I gave it away on Craigslist for free.

I don't hate anyone here... I just get into it when I type. Loosen up a bit, jeez... it's getting way too emotional on here. :crybaby: After all, arguments always make the best conversations...

Touche, my friend.

Generally at work, even if I don't actually feel this way about something, I will choose the opposing point of view simply for arguments sake.

Occasionally people get rather upset when I let them know the way I actually feel, and that I was just making them argue their point for no reason... :hatsoff:

Hepar, I hope you know I respect you, and I completely agree that COB was a bit harsh...

I can kind of understand why though, for instance, if you met a millionaire and he went and took a couple thousand dollars and decided to roll some cuban cigars in them and smoke em, you would be a little upset no? He has every right to smoke his cubans wrapped in hundred dollar bills (ok bad analogy, its breaks fed law, but you get the point) Just cuz he can doesn't mean he should.

Watching someone decimate something that is important to you regardless of whether they have the "right" to or not doesn't mean that you shouldn't voice your opinion that you believe that its wrong. Especially in a public forum like this.

and if we can make sure that some other rich millionaire kid doesnt get the same crazy idea, we might have made the world a slightly better place.

albeit, you are right, a bit more respectful tone may be due...

Heres to all the pot-stirrers! may we always sneak out unscathed as those around us battle each other! LOL
