fabtech 6"

I personally like the look of the "Island" trucks! Kinda wish Mine was that big!

Although Brian, and some of the other guys were right about them not being as off-road capable, not everyone is looking for that. I find alot of remarks that are said around here, that kinda push Off-road readiness over cosmetic mods. Not that I see anything wrong with Off-road capable rides (in fact I find them really cool), like Brian's, Miller, SnowRunner, and 4Runnit, but not everybody wants a steel plated bumper, skid plates, and a high lift jack on their roof rack. As cool as that is, some of us, like lifted rigs, with off-road tires, but don't want to run the heavy armor, and don't intend on ever driving our trucks over huge rock faces or bolders in Colorado or California.

Personally, I think this forum is big enough to entertain all of us. Whether you're into serious off-roading, or like chromed out, lifted rigs, there is plenty of Eye Candy on here for all of us to enjoy! :biggrin2:

How about we start by NOT telling the next new guy, that he HAS to ditch his running boards, "because they look stupid" or "the truck looks better without them". It may be the popular opinion, but it is just that, an opinion. Everybody is entitled to their likes, and dislikes, and telling a guy that his truck looks good, but would look better if he modded it exactly like the next guy, isn't productive. If you ask me, it's not longer called customizing when it looks just like the other guys truck.

That's my 2 cents, and I hope I didn't offend anybody. I've just wanted to say that for quite a while now, and thought that this would be a good time??

I agree with you fightman, to each their own. I don't care if somebody wants to do something just for looks, more power to them. I do try to warn people who may think that some mods are more functional than they really are, but in the end, I would never be prejudice against someone who chooses to do a DB lift or wants to leave their running boards on or whatever. I was just surprised at how angry that 8sm seemed to get at Sn0wrunner when he wasn't trying to be rude or insulting. He was just making a joke which has a lot of truth to it.

When I come up with the scripts, this is the type of lift I want to do.

Is this type of lift any good for wheeling?

in all fairness i would rather live in a place that is stereotyped for big lifts than where i am now.... "if you don't drive a Mercedes, Porsche or BMW, get out of my way, my son needs to get to soccer practice." :ybrick:
 
love the controversy

It is kinda funny, the island lift thing....I just spent a week on Kauai and a week on on Maui...I saw a tons of mega lifted Tacos but almost no Runners...near the end of the visit I saw the first lifted Runner and sure enough it was lifted a couple of feet...and the punch line is... it even had surfboards on top...now just to keep the "JOKE" going I'm sure they were just props, you'd need a 10' ladder to get them down

Actually, you open your rear door and get up on the door sil to get surfboards of your roof rack. The 10' ladder is going a bit too far. :surfer:

I actually just returned from Kauai and noticed a lot of trucks with huge drop bracket lifts and super wide tires. I think some tires were wider than they were tall.

At first I thought it was rediculous, but after being there for a week it appeared to be the norm. Different truck culture down there for sure and if I lived there I would be the odd one out and would probably get made fun of for my puny lift and skinny tires.

Different strokes for different folks.

The worst part was the damn red dirt that clung to every vehicle, nasty. I think it rained everyday we were there so its probably hard to keep a vehicle clean.

You make it sound as if Hawaii trucks can't wheel with wide tires and huge lifts. My pickup is up lifted mor than 3" and it gets me to quite a few places with no problems.
 
The Fabtech lift is a good lift if you're wanting to go that route. I ran one for a few years and loved it. I wheeled it all over southern California and Baja. It was just as capable as a 3" lifted truck. I went everywhere my buddies dual locked FZJ80 on 35's went.

For the rear, I matched the front with tall 9 wrap FZJ80 coils and 1.5" daystar spacers. You'll need to extend your brake line, and get an adjustable panhard bar. I removed sway bar. My next thing I was going to do is add adjustable upper control arms to adjust pinion angle, and use heim lower control arms.

The rear end would float and do 95% of the work during wheeling. The front end wasn't great but if you're just going down some semi flat trails to da beach I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks man. I actually sold it last year. I wanted a stock truck again.... Baja has got a little sketchy lately so I'd rather go incognito. :D

Well grass is always greener on the other side cause I could really go for some warm Hawaiian juice right about now. This winter has been weak here. :(
 
i rode in a 4runner with a 6" fabtech and its awsome for the beach, DD, huntinh up mauka and what not, id say go for it
 
Ok I may have missed it somewhere in here, but where do you find one of these. I just looked at there website and found them for tacomas, no 4runners
