Factory 3in lift? Revtech?

Hello,

I am looking at adding a lift to my 4runner and a local (3hrs away) dealer said that they install revtech lift kits. The link for revtech is here.

The major pro is that it doesnt void any warranties. For 100 dollars more plus my time to install, I can use the bilstein 5100 kit from toytec. 3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner

Thoughts? Any experience with either?

Its a spacer lift, not much else to say. If and what warranties will it void if you do others? Depends on the dealer. I've struggled with this myself. The revtech prolly won't help with the squishy ride if you have an sr5 but not sure. I'd rather do the bilsteins.

Im sorry, I have generally dealt with leafs only. The spacer adds the lift on the under side of the spring? Seems kind shotty.

Anything other than the revtec will potentially void my powertrain warranty I was told.

I think Bilstein is the better option.

I am assuming the bilstein kit comes with different springs that either have a stiffer spring rate or longer and thus accomplish the lift.

Am I in the ball park?

The dealership said that the revtec doesnt effect the suspension geometry but how is that possible? They same to be doing the same thing. One does it with springs and the other does it with spacers?

The Bilsteins are struts that replace the factory ones and are height adjustable (upfront) to stock .85 1.75 or 2.5 inches. With a straight bilstein swap there is no change to the springs (however there is a stiffer ride brought on by the new strut)

Ok, so the front is just strictly a coilover swap with adjustability as opposed to the revtec kit that adds a spacer to the front coil over setup.

The rear is a spring change and longer shocks. The revtec kit is again a spacer on the underside of the spring with longer shocks.

The main reason I went this route, it was cheap. Several 4x4 shops had it in stock so I was able to shop around for best price.

Did it accomplish what I wanted? Yes and no.
Yes - Got the lift to fit the tires I wanted and the look I was going for.
No - I can not do any serious off-roading, which is ok for now (I'm a novice in this area) but I will want take on more. Which means I will have to spend more money. :tsk:

Someone on here told me, save up the money and buy the better lift... Go with the Bilsteins, is what they said. Did I listen? No. Do I regret it. A little. But overall I am satisfied ... I paid $800 for the lift, install, mount-balance and move the TPMS and the alignment.

But as everyone will tell you what they dislike about the runner, the nose dive. The RevTek in no way helps with that. The Bilsteins will.

My 2 cents, go with the Bilsteins. I don't see what it will void. Many others have installed them on here. The dealer where I bought my runner only did Pro-Comp lifts and said "those don't void any warranty, not sure about anything else". They just say those things to get you to drink their cool-aid.

I hear you. I would probably be fine without a lift but I live in a pretty remote part of North Dakota and I do drive quite a bit of two tracks/ gravel roads. I worry a little about high centering on some of the two tracks or snow. I do put my through the paces compared to someone who does 70 percent city driving but I am not looking to do rock climbing.

I am probably 55/45 pavement to gravel/two track.

When you install spacers like this you have effectively replaced your factory bump stops w/ your shock absorbers - your shocks will bottom out before you hit the bump stops. Shocks aren't made to take that kind of abuse, here's what can happen:

The dealership can't void your powertrain warranty for installing a lift kit, they're blowing smoke. Research Moss Magnuson Warranty Act.

I have a 2011 limited and just added a Revtek 2-3" lift. Did you have to do any trimming to make the 285's fit and did you have to add wheel spacers or purchase new wheels?
