Factory Car Alarm Help!!

I just went to do the "grey wire mod" aka "blue wire red stripe mod" so I disconnect the negative connection on my battery and the alarm starts going off. I mash the button on my key ring but it doesn't even phase it. The button does however lock and unlock the doors while it's going off. Then truck gives a few beeps and goes off on its on. I tried to crank my truck after it went off but it won't turn over now. WTF!!!!

I called the dealer and got this taken care of so here is what you do. Apparently there are atleast 2 different types of systems.

1) one with a red push button on dash (i do not have this type)
2) one with a spring loaded button on the driverside kick panel ( this is the one I have) I have a hard plastic red light on my dash that will not push in so if you have this type look on your kick panel for the reset.

With both types all you do is turn key to ON position (NOT START) then press red button or spring loaded button ONCE (do not hold down) then turn key to off position and back to ON position. Your alarm should be reset now!


In reference to the first post "grey wire mod" is working great. Love it!
 
I found out that doing the sequence only once just resets the alarm but you have to do the sequence everytime you want to start the truck. The only way that I found to get everything back to normal is repeat the sequence 3 times. 2 may be enough but I just got aggravated and did the sequence 3 times in a row and it worked to completely reset everything back to normal.

This has happend to me twice now. Yeah i know. should have learned the first time huh?

Bout pissed myself when i reconnected the battery. The first time I did it, i didnt know how to correct the issue. So i just pulled out the fuse for the horn so at least there was not any noise. could still hear the clickin though so I knew when it would engage.

It only took me one time through that rotation each time to reset the system.

Now I try to deactivate the system before pulling the battery.

Sstarting 1996 4runner 2.7

Hello, I am Carlos Garcia from Puerto Rico, sorry, I do not speak much English, I'm helping with a translator, my 1996 4runner 2.7. He broke a + battery terminal and replace it and then did not Start again. How do I reset the alarm and starting on a 4Runner (1996) after replacing the terminal battery? The bulb flashing alarm is not turned on, after all doors and hood are closed and door locks operated with key, but there is still no response when turning the key in the ignition and It is not the battery, all the lights and locks work. I try to shift into neutral or park and not response to start. When key is in the ignition all light coming on the dash and when i try to start does light stay on but nothing happens. I change the starter relay and I still 30A fuse blows # 28 "starting system ING fuse". Check the # 27 40A "Starting System and i see is fine, I have not changed this. When change again the 30A fuses # 28" starting system ING fuse ". Begins to ignite but fails and blows again the fuse. Could help me get what could be the problem?

Just thought I'd add a little info to this thread for anyone searching.

When you do the reset sequence, be sure all doors & the hood are close. Might help to pull the fuse for the horn while you're going through the steps.

I am a noobie to the forum. This is my first 4Runner, and it did not come with an owners manual. Anyone have a digital one?

The flashing red "LED" is to the left of the steering wheel on the dash, but not in the instrument cluster. It is where the "Clutch Start Cancel" button is in my 89 pickup. I feel like a total noob asking about this.
 
BUMP! I recently got a 97 4rumner with factory rs3000. I went to fix an exposed wire for my turn signal and disconnected positive battery terminal. Alarm no longer arms/disarms/locks/unlocks. If I hold down the top button it will make the alarm go off but the car will still start. Any help appareciated!

Did you read the instructions about the alarm from above ^?
 
Does the RS3000 tie into the ignition at all beyond the starter?

The 02 SR5 I picked up last weekend has the RS3000 status monitor but also this jenky aftermarket HORNET alarm/keyless. I will get around to removing it but will need to do more homework first. While doing some maintenance yesterday I noticed a few wires poked through the firewall grommet one of which splices into the coil pack harness.

This wouldn't be the RS3000 would it?
 
Reset Scenario for kickplate factory alarm not working

So I lost my only keyless remote, and my alarm decided to go off and now my car is stuck at work. Tried to do the above mentioned "scenario" for the kick plate switch factory model 2001 4runner several different ways (over and over again and with ACC instead of "on") however it didn't work. Still won't start. It looked like my switch was bad (it wouldn't depress - spring is broken), so I also tried touching the wires together - no dice! any other ideas? My car will not start. thanks everyone - this is my first post.

Make sure if you messed with any fuses for the horn that you put them back before doing the "On, reset button, off, on" scenario. Also be sure your button feels like it's depressing / clicking. Had to bypass mine and it worked! Thanks everyone!

Just want to chime in about how this worked for my situation:

Ive got a '01 SR5 and I accidentally drained my battery (left hatch light on!). For some reason, once I realized the batt was dead, I also realized that the red light left of the steering wheel was on (not blinking). Now Im not sure if this has anything to do with the dead batt or if in cycling the ignition trying to start the truck did something.

So after boosting and recharging the battery, everything was fine and the truck was back running - BUT the light on the left side continue to stay on (even when the truck was off). I ended up using what cj80cruiser suggested.

I've got the "one with a spring loaded button on the driverside kick panel and a hard plastic red light on my dash that will not push in". I followed cj80cruiser's advice: turn key to ON position (NOT START) then press red button or spring loaded button ONCE (do not hold down) then turn key to off position and back to ON position. I only had to do this once and the light went off. Seems like everything is back to normal. I would surmise that when the light is on (not blinking) that it indicates the alarm systems in in "valet" mode but am not positive.

Help!! Junction Box

I can't post a new thread but I need urgent help identifying where this connector goes. Dealership installed alarm was removed and it's left 2 wires unconnected. Ones yellow and ones blk/yellow. Any help is greatly appreciated
