Factory mudflaps

I'm thinking about ditching my running boards and buying front
Mudflaps from Toyota (I have the chrome sr5 trim). My question is how effective are the front flaps? I'm paranoid that a rock might get picked up and hit the side of my runner and my a/t's always have rocks stuck in the tread. I really like the look w/o the boards but I like the protection they offer and i don't want to risk body damage.

I actually just placed the factory mud flaps on my 3rd gen t4r. I love the look and they couldn't install cleaner. My wheels are a bit winder than most stock 4runners and they line up beautifully. Have yet to try them out but so far so good.
