factory nav system

I just found out much to my dismay, that my 2004 4Runner has a 3rd generation navigation system in it (instead of the current 4th generations in all other Toyota vehicles). From the Toyota technical rep, i also found out that even the 05's have the older systems in them.
What this means is that we cannot get upgrade dvd's with new maps that come out every year. So we are stuck with the same maps as long as we own our 4Runners with the factory nav.
Isn't that a rip? I lodged a complaint with Toyota, but they will only do something about it if enough people complain. I'm also posting this under the audio forum.

The navigation system in all 4Runners is an older variety than the current one being used by Toyota in their other vehicles. The newest navigation systems are what they call 4th gen (nothing to do with the gen of 4Runners).
For some reason, Toyota is putting an older system in the 4Runners including the 2005 ones currently in production.
As far as I know, they will not be making any updates to the map dvd's for these older systems, which means if the roads, etc change, you are stuck with an out of date system.
