Factory Sirius/XM Satellite Radio Antenna Repair/Replace

Hello,

My 2007 4Runner has the factory Sirius/XM satellite radio in it. I've had it for about 18 months now. I don't have a subscription to Sirius/XM, but for some reason, all channels still work. The problem is, I live in New Jersey, and I only get reception when I cross over the bridges into Philadelphia.

It used to be perfect virtually anywhere I drove, but then one day I noticed the magnetic antenna attached to the back roof has some fraying around the wire, and I think that may be causing it.

Has anyone had to do this repair before? If so, is it to replace or repair?

The quality on those antennas has decreased drastically in the past ten years, there is probably not much copper in there to repair.

The sometimes reception you get is probably due to the terrestrial repeaters in some areas, metros mostly with bridges tunnels and overpasses that block signal, the receiver has two bands, one from the sky and one from the air.

The older units would allow you to monitor those signal strengths independently.

...and if you can hold on to your equipment the older stuff is way better than the new stuff !
