Well I have decided that my first simple Mod will be the stock speakers. I specifically avoided getting the JBL option in favor of creating my own premium sound system. I know the front doors are 6x9 and the rear are 6.5 inchers. My previous 05 4Runner, I opened up the door panels and noticed I will need speaker mounts/adapters to screw them to the door. I did some research and found a website www.tacotunes.com. These mounts are for Tacomas and pretty sure that the Tacomas and 4Runners utilize the same speakers which may mean same mounts/adapters. Has anyone experienced or utilized the tacotunes mounts?? Or used another method of putting aftermarket speakers in?? Take a look at the site and tell me what you think of them. I am planning on keeping the headunit just only changing the speakers and maybe a powered sub to add some punch. The speakers I am currently considering are the Alpine Type Rs. Opinions are welcomed on speakers.

These adapters look like they will fit. But, you will have to get the speaker wire to plug into the speaker on the other side. I had to make my adapters from MDF wood. So it looks this will save a lot of work. Also this will not work if you are planning 6.5 or 5.25 inch component speakers for the front. For speakers, i recommend MB Quarts or Infinity. These have good sound quality for the price.
I would also take a listen to the Focal line. Tweeter dropped MB Quart and took on Focal, they are gunna cost a lot more, but you don't have to match the front and rear sets. You only need a rear set for fill anyways. I have Focal K2Ps (replacing the MBQPCE 612s) in the front and JL TR's in the rear.

If you are on a budget, I recommend the Infinity Reference series if you are not going to be using an amp with them. Or any other reputable brand speaker with a similar high sensitivity number. You'll get better midbass.

well my price range for a pair of 6x9 is surfacing around $200-250 and a pair of 6.5 around $150, I just want to get the best bang for the buck. I was at Tweeters earlier and heard the Focals' component system, and it was amazing, just a bit out of my price range. I was a huge fan of the Alpine Type S while there, it produced the right balance of highs and lows comparing them to the Boston Accoustics. Now the next speakers on my list to test are Alpine Type R. My range may increase though if a pair of speakers just blows me away..
And as a side question, I saw a pair of 3.5'' coaxial Boston Acoustic speakers at Tweeters, Do you guys think I can replace the tweeter in the door panel with a speaker of that size.

I would seriously consider getting an amp to power your speakers. IMO, you are spending way too much money on a set of speakers if you are only going to run them off of your headunit. You are not utilizing those awesome sounding speakers to their fullest potential, and therefore should save some cash and get a decent set that will compliment your head unit

Those adaptors do look nice. What I typically do is: I draw by hand, use MS Word drawing function, or use Visio to draw a template. Then I print out the template and rubber cement it onto something like MDF. Then using a jigsaw and drill I cut on the lines that I printed out.
