Factory to Factory stereo upgrade help (JBL Owners)

Nice work MoJoe. I went down the exact same road as you prior to my upgrade to an aftermarket. You'll be happy with the USA Spec and newer factory head unit. Everything worked great and sound quality was great. I will say after about 2 (maybe 3) years (I had the USA Spec Toy 12) the h/u didn't like switching to AUX so sometimes my Spec was useless. But it eventually would switch after playing with it for a bit. But overall I was happy with that setup.

What's a CD? Hard drive, USB drive or SD card reader is the future, my friend. I've Pioneer unit with thousands of songs on USB drive. Id get this unit for JBL optioned runner:

Will this fit in the preexisting space where the stereo would originally be? I have an 07 sr5

I am reviving this thread because I have scoured google and can't find the answer. Much like the OP I am going to buy a P1803 (86120-35340) to put in my 2004 4Runner with JBL Synth 10-speaker sound.

What I am most interested in is the Sat and Aux. I know the Sat requires a $100 kit that plugs in teh back and includes an antenna, etc.

What I can NOT figure out is the Aux. The one I want to buy does not come with any factory cables, and I have no idea what OEM cable to order that will give me access to a 3.5mm aux jack that I can plug in to once I wire it out the dash (on the 2006-2008 it's wired in to the middle elbow box)

Does anybody know what/where I can get the required cable? Or is this an aftermarket piece?

This is a shameless bump. Just bought the unit on Ebay and I'm no closer to figuring out what/where to get the AUX wire for the P1803... I'll keep looking!

I'm reviving an old thread in hopes that someone can shed some light on this. I'm blessed/cursed with the JBL Synthesis in my 2005 Sport Edition. Sound wise, I'm not picky. What bothers me, however, is the lack of features on the stock head unit (JBL, single disk + cassette, no RDS). In 2005, I would have been fine creating a CD for my drives. In 2015, my MacBook doesn't even know what an optical disk drive is. In my other vehicles I use Bluetooth, SXM, or USB for all my music. Granted, those vehicles are a 2015 IS350 and 2014 Range Rover HSE, but still, I feel like the 2005 system should have had more to offer. I hate the aftermarket look and don't particularly want or need a touchscreen in this truck. So I've searched these posts for several days looking at my options and realized they are slim. People have tried to go from single CD to multi-disk and get alignment issues. Same with using other Toyota vehicle units (i.e. Sienna). I have JBL so I can't do what I would want to do and use the Scion T1819. But that got me to thinking. The 4Runner and FJ Cruiser used a lot of similar components. In the later years of the FJ, the base head unit was the same (or appears to be) of the later 4th gen 4Runners. The FJ had a JBL system as an option...so would an FJ JBL head unit work in a 4Runner? I tried to search the forums for that, but "JBL" is too short of a search term to get any results, and if you search "FJ Cruiser JBL" you get 20 pages of FJ suspension posts. Bottom line... has it been tried and will it work?

Shameless bump. I have an 05 SE as well and I just want a friggin aux jack. I listen to nothing but internet radio or downloaded therefrom, and I just want to confirm that P1803 will slide right in and work. If anyone has tried it, please tell us how it went or works, and how to get the aux properly installed, I'd be so grateful.

It will work and be plug and play IF you have JBL. You'll need the aux harness/cable and you should be good to go.

Will the require me two splice a new harness in of just find an additional one with the proper cables? Thank you so much for the response.

You will need something like this. I am not sure of the exact part number since I only have USB and not aux, but I'm willing to bet you could search the forum and find it.

I just bought a 2016 Limited with the JBL system that has XM. I have an aftermarket XM head unit that runs through AUX.

Where does the XM antenna already on my 4R go to and can I unplug it so I can use it on my head unit.

I drag my head unit between the car, truck, boat and house and hope I can locate the car antenna end so I don't have to wire a second magnetic antenna.
