Hi fellow T4r'ers and expert stereo folks,
I recently upgraded my 2015 4runner limited JBL's head unit to an Alpine Halo9. The headunit is pretty cool, albeit with some issues with iOS 14.5.1 carplay and Alpine deck on the GPS handshake.
One thing I noticed was that the sound quality actually went down with the alpine deck. I tuned the EQ with a reference Dayton IMM-6 mic and Audio Control's RTA. I'm not able to adjust the subwoofer level without the JBL deck.
Also my 2015 that I purchased in 2014 I think is having some issues with front door speaker dry rot. I noticed a crack on the rubber dome when I took the door panel off a year ago.
What about folks thought on this system that I have paper designed? I want to take advantage of the Auto EQ + Auto Time alignment of Kicker's Key2 amp.
I'm also following a Fivestar Audio's youtube channel's build because I don't want to go through the effort of trial and error for fits. Too bad they are in Florida, and I'm in California. If they were local, I'd just drop off my 4runner and let them take care of everything.
my biggest worry are:
1.) Where to access the factory JBL speaker harness at the right spot. I understand that the wiring is different between JBL and non JBL as the JBL is a full active system. I'm thinking of buying a pig tail harness to plug into the harness point where the factory JBL amp outputs.
2.) I don't have the tools available to me to do a proper tuning of a full blown DSP. So I'm hoping to rely on the automatic functions of the Kicker Key Amps.
3.) Do you think a 2nd kicker key amp controlling rear and hatch speakers will tune correctly?
