Factory Trailer Hitch Question

jimithing, I didnt get the curt hitch hole cover with mine. Was I supposed to? or was yours optional? Also its very easy to remove that ugly orange sticker. I reloacated mine to the rear of the tube so its still there, just not visible.

Nope, it didn't come with it. I bought it separately.

Yup, that was about a year ago. I came out of it a little stiff and some glass in one hand where my hand hit the windshield. Other than that I was fine - luckily so was the lady that pulled out in front of me.

I found this hidden hitch that allows you to move the wiring harness onto it, and doesn't show as much as the curt.... but of course more expensive.

That crashed 4R makes me sad.

Sorry OP for hijacking your thread... you were just asking a simple question about the stock hitch.

The Toyota hitch is pretty beefy and it bolts to the box beam of the rear frame. This is how Toyota certifies it for that weight and class..

I challenge you on the weight of your boat though. I have a 18' that weights 3500 lbs. add 4' and lots of fuel and got to be into 4000lbs..

The boat is a 1975 Cruiser (not sure exact model) its 21.5 feet with a 140 Outboard. Single axle trailer. I will look into the exact weight. My father has some number of what the engine and boat definitely weigh alone and we sort of guesstimated it to be 3500#. It she weighs 4000# Will it kill it? Prolly not, and we live in long island, NY so we wont have to tow it to far. Plus we have my truck as well.

My biggest concern was -- Is this hitch a class 1 and rated for 2000#??? and the boat is gonna rip off the back of the truck??
But it doesn't seem to be.

1986 Ebb Tide (out of business) with a V8 I/O.. 3300lbs dry, 3800 with fuel and supplies for going out.. 22' boats vary from monsters that weigh tons to bass boats that are light as a feather but I'd suggest to anyone that wants to tow something that may be heavy for a 4runner to just go get it weighted at a commercial scale.

The stock hitch should be fine.

My Hiden Hitch had a relocation bracket for the 7pin plug.
