Falken AT/3W vs Cooper AT3

I am looking at getting a new set of tires. I currently have Firestone Destination LE2s that carried over to my 01 4x4 from my 97 2wd. They've been great tires but now that I have 4wd, I'd like to get stuck in a bit deeper whole


I'm in south Louisiana. We don't have frozen water falling from the sky.
I want to stick with 265/75-16s. In P/SL/STD weight loads and I've narrowed it down to these two.

The Falkens are newer and I haven't seen much out of these two. They're very similarly priced...Falkens are $10 more per tire.

Lots of info out there about the AT3s. Anyone's input on these two tires?

I had the AT3s on my old 97 Tacoma, and they sucked. At least in snow they sucked. I never got the opportunity to try them in mud or dirt before I got rid of the truck.
 
Never heard about AT3 being this bad. I saw a video on youtube where a guy driving a F150 on heavy snow on 2WD with AT3.
I didn't come across snow since I got my AT3 but from the thread design, I see it is good all around (less hydroplaning, good for snow/Ice and mud) I did lot of research on AT3 before the purchase.

I know these aren't the tires you are considering, but I thought I would throw this out there for your consideration. These are Cooper ATPs — which are very similar to the AT3s but a little more aggressive.

I have about 50k on these tires. Great tires but can be noisy on certain road surfaces. Good dry and wet weather traction.

Good in dirt and didn't have any issues in the few times I've been up in the snow. No real mud or sand experiences with them.

They are Cooper exclusives to Discount Tire back east and Americas Tire out west.

Might not be the most aggressive looking tire, but I like them nonetheless.


When I first got them:

I've got the at3's....I've been very happy so far. Haven't had them in the snow yet but hopefully they will do well. They are very quiet and balance out real easy.

prob going to put a set on my wife's FJ soon. Was thinking about the GRabbers above....look great and the price is right, but for comfort and mainly road use I think I'm just gonna go with the AT3's....they look pretty good too!

If you are going to be offroad and in the mud I'd go with the Grabbers...Walmart has a real good deal on them..they look just like the BFG ATs. They do well off road and aren't terribly loud either.

i've had my Falken AT/3W for over a week now and i really like it. the "P" rated tire is a lot smoother riding than my E ply that i had on before. Not noisy at all really good in the rain. (it's been raining here) haven't been on dirt yet. and I couldn't chime in driving in the snow. it'll probably never see snow.20161203_135007.jpg

From what I can tell the ATPs and AT3s are nearly identical. I didn't even bother making a distinction because of how close they were. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the input. I stated I'd like to stick with a P rated tire for DD comfort. They don't make that tire in the size I mentioned in P rating. If I were open to LT tires it really opens the door to a bunch of different tires, but the ride is too harsh for my liking from past experience in my 97.
 
I also have the at/3w. I agree with Samsung. They're great in the rain. Not to much experience with mud yet. I got a buddy that's tried them in the snow and said that they're really good.

I'm running 3 sets of the AT3's right now. 96 and 97 4runner and 08 tundra. I live on gravel and we get a lot of snow... been great so far.
