Falken Wildpeak 285/70/17 Fitment

I know this question has been asked before, but I have searched high and low and cannot find a good answer.

I am running the TRD Pro Sema Wheels that have 4mm (3/16") offset and 93mm (3 11/16") backspace. I lifted my 4Runner with 5100's set at 2.5" in the front and a 1.5" daystar rear spacer. My measurements from ground to fender before and after are:

FD: 34.5 FP: 35
RD: 36-1/8 RP: 36-7/8
After: 38" on all sides.

I want to know what the odds of fitting the Falken Wildpeak 285/70/17 are on my truck. If anyone else has ran this set up with success, that would be great to hear. I don't mind removing the mud flaps, but I would like to do as little trimming as possible. I definitely don't want to get into having to do a BMC. Any input would be appreciated.

PS, anyone looking to get Falken Wildpeak tires right now, Sam's Club has them for around $180 a tire.

I too am curious about the 285 width. My 19 Pro sits at 38 5/8 on the fronts. With the SEMA wheels and the stock 265/70/17 there is only about 3/4 of an inch clearance between the tire and the front edge of body mount with the wheels fully turned.
Part of me says go 255/80/17 and get height without width...(33.1 inch tall)
A 275/70/17 is just too close to stock for my taste. (32.6 tall)
I suppose the front edge of the BM could be ground down a little in the front edge...but...
If anyone knows...please share!

You can always dial more caster into your alignment and that will move the wheel forward in the wheel well and give you more room between tire and body mount. That's why a lot of us have got aftermarket UCA's to be able to have enough caster to stay away from the body mount while keeping other parameters of alignment within spec.

Thanks!
I did add the SPC UCA's with the lift. Currently sitting at 4.3 DS and 4.2 PS
It still looks too close back by the front (curved) edge of the BM.

probably going to have to pull the trigger on a 275/70/17 and run them for a while to see how much clearance I have to work with.

To be honest you can go 275 if you want but if you are going up in tire size I would go 285 just to make it worth your while. With the SPC's you can definitely get enough caster to keep your tires off the body mount no problem. You can keep your mud flaps and all if you want. I didn't realize you had SPC UCA's but I know a few people with the same setup and they have no problem with 285's. They kept the mudflaps and did slight trimming on the front fender. Just tell you alignment tech to dial in as much caster as possible while keeping the other parameters within reason... they will at least be close to where they should be. Some of us (including me) run close to 5 degrees caster and it's awesome not having any issues with the body mount. In my opinion dont go 275 and if you have any questions just ask.... I can definitely answer them on this issue!

Measuring from the ground is not the correct, accurate way to measure. You want to measure from the center hub to the top of the fender arch. You can measure from the bottom center of the wheel lip up to the top of the fender arch and then subtract half of the wheel size. This will be larger than 17". Measure the diameter of the wheel and divide by two.
Anyway, I have a 2018 Pro with 285/70-17 Falken AT3W's on my factory Pro wheels. I have Cornfed spacers, 1.5" front and 1" rear. My center of hub to top of fender arch is 22.5" front and 23.25" rear. No rubbing on anything. No mods besides the spacers. The Pro comes with the fender liner cut from the port. That makes a difference, along with the Pro wheel offset. Go 285's as you have many more tire choices and availability then 275's. Unless you are a hard core rock crusher I would stay to a C or SL load. Good luck.

I have honestly never even used my 4WD, so I definitely am not a hardcore rock crusher. I know that it can make a difference measuring from the ground by wheels and tire selection. I am measuring with the Pro wheels and the stock tires which only have about 7k miles on them. Do you have aftermarket UCA's or still stock? I have stock, but it sounds like some people have problems rubbing their body mount without them. I'm pretty sure I want to get the 285's but I hate to get a set and then they rub like crazy.

I am running stock UCA's and still want to fit the 285's. Do you have any knowledge to rubbing on the body mount and other locations with the 2.5/1.5 lift?

With stock UCA and same tires (Wildpeaks 285/70-17 E) and caster close to +3 degrees, I did not have any rubbing on BM. I had to trim the bumper thought.

I have the stock UCA’s. If I were to calculate my ground to fender measurements, mine is 38.9” front and 39.65” rear, not taking in to account the variations in tire pressures and tires under load. Since you are about 1” lower up front then my setup and do not have the fender liner mod you will probably run into some clearance issues with 285’s.

I have a 19 pro with eibach front springs on the fox and a 1/4” strut mount shim, and SPCs. I have 285 KO2 on stock wheels and have zero rub with mudflaps on.

I have 2020 Pro.

I installed Eibach 1.6" springs, with 2 Ekstrom Designs shims up front. Total roughly 2.5 inch lift. Rear has load leveling system by Eibach, set nearly at max height - I assume 3 inches (+,-)

JBA High Caster UCA - set to -4.3* caster on both sides

Wheels are SCS Ray 10, -12 offset 17x8.5. Tires 285/70/17 Toyo At3.

I rubbed the body mount hard at full lock in reverse.

Decided to have Stellar Built do a body mount relocation, and pinch weld, instead of body mount chop (cab mount chop). Very purdy welds. Reason I went full relocation, will probably go bigger once these tires are done. Love them so far, very quiet. Would most likely go 285/75/17, possibly re-gear at the same time.

Good luck all,

Slightly parallel question:
What load rating are you guys running?

Sorry if this question is asked before..

I see 3 different ones available in the 285/70/17.

The C load seems to be heavier than the E load and doesnt support as much weight. Why would I want to choose the C load at all? Is the ride comfort worse in E load?

Ofcourse, the E load is about ~$30 more than the C load but I on the long run over 2-3 years, this is a wash.

My set up

2015 TRD PRO on OEM TRD Bilstein suspension with Cornfed 2/1.5 spacers

Tires: 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeak MT’s wrapped around the OEM SEMA wheels.

No BMC, no mud flap removal, no rubbing full lock in reverse after just minor fender trimming and fender liner forward adjustment.

I run an SL. Happy with the smoother ride as compared to the E load BFG KO2’s in 275’s that I had on before. The load rating all depends on how much extra weight you are carrying or towing and how much and what type of off road terrain you are doing.
