Fancy Plasti-dipping?

I've been on the forum here for a while, and I've noticed a lot of members using plastidip. I've been planning on this, myself, but I've noticed a few people, like gaterose, have some fancy things done. How does one go about doing small details such as the Toyota emblem on the stock rims?

I am sure there is a lot of videos on the internet explaining proper techniques for plastidipping. My question/concern is how people get the interior of the letters out without pulling the plastidip of the letters themselves. I am talking about the toyota/sport edition/limited style letters on the doors and rear hatch.

Its much much much much easier than your mind makes it out to be. You literally just tape off the area, spray 3-5 coats to completely cover the entire area, and peel away the portions that you dont want to have covered up. The tiny gaps between the badges and the body panels leave a space where the layers of dip do not connect to one another, and if they do it's thin enough so that it tears easily and neatly along that separation. A small tool (I used a dental pick and a steady hand) helps to pick at and peel away the dip from insides of letters. Watch the you tube videos. Don't be afraid to experiment with this stuff. Mistakes are EXTREMELY easy to fix. Just peel and start over.

It's simpler than this.. You don't have to bother pulling the tape before the dip dries.

If you can get past this guys gross long fingernails, this video shows it perfectly..

ive been curious about my badges as well, this gave me what i needed. Ill be doing them shortly now.

This stuff is getting so popular, I went to Home Depot to get some other things and went to find some, there all out. The piant guy sayes, sell it as fast as they can get it, you want some of the dip type, NOPE.

same here in Vacaville. Lowes and HD are always out. Apparently people forget about OSH. They're always stocked.

I painted on top of the plastidip.

Btw, I took my brush guard off but it's kinda really really messed up now...

a tooth pick works well at getting in between the letters. just pick at it until you make a hole then twist and it wraps around the tooth pick and comes right off

I blacked out my "chrome" grille on my navy blue runner. . what do you guys think, should I take off the plastidip on the emblem and leave the rest of it blacked out. . or just keep it all black?

I left mine all black. Could go either way I guess. If you dont like it, just spray over it again.

This is going to be a stupid question, but I've never tried plasti dip. I recently got FJ springs and daystar spacers for my lift. I was thinking about using Plasti Dip on those, but on the springs I figured it would wear off, and I wasn't sure how well the spray would take to the polyeurethane. Does anybody know for sure?

i wouldnt. Only because it will flex and "break" the plastidip. Id just go get some rustoleum and spray them black. Something more permanent.
